I'm trying to remove my cranks so I can replace the BB. I've never removed an external type bb before as most of my bike had the old internal types.

I bought a splined wrench but I can't get crank arms off. Not sure if it comes off on the drive side or non-drive side. I already removed the dust cover and the crank bolt(1) which was on the drive side, now what? is there a different sort of a puller I need to get other than the one I used to remove an ISIS drive or Octalink? :?:

I usually do most of my maintenance, but I've never dealt with an external bb before.
Just want to save a trip to the LBS. Here are some pics to show you what I mean. Thanks.

the ones I had, you leave the dustcap on, then screw out the inner bolt. It jambs against the dustcap and forces the cranks off. You may need a cheater bar......

Tighten the cap with the 10mm hex (left hand thread) down against the inner bolt then loosen the inner bolt (8mm hex, RH thread). It pulls the drive-side arm right off... No special wrenches or puller required to gt that far.

Thanks for the tip guys. I put the dust cap back on and snugged it down, then loosened the inner bolt and it pull itself off like you said. Just took some elbow grease.

Be sure and grease the splines when you put it back together. Also make sure you completely bottom out the bolt when you tighten it up.

These came stock on the bike and seem to do the work nicely. Not sure how much they weigh, but since it's on my all mountain bike rather than my XC bike, I'm not too worried about weight. No issues thus far and I like the black.
