Hi there!
I recently got a "nice" mountain bike for my birthday so I could start riding some good trails and stay active. I just recently ended my 6 years of active service in the Marine Corps, and am currently back in school. I want to find new people to ride with as I don't know too much about all that is involved with making this a sport. I really enjoy outdoor activities, but I just don't go if on my own.
I hope to meet some new people and ride some more technical trails eventually as I enjoy going fast and enjoying challenges. I just need to get into biking shape. :)

Mike

Welcome Mike,

Thank you for your military service.
Although I'm content to ride solo most always, perhaps sometime we can ride together on a day when it's cool and threatening rain, so very tired of being parched.
I would encourage you to check out The Path Bike Shops' website, they have rides throughout the week and weekends, good people.
Best wishes regarding school.

Steve

Hey, Mrizzle,

+1 on Steve's comment.

The true "season" where you live is starting pretty much right now, so you're in a good place, literally and figuratively, to join the activity. I'm doing rides in your back yard most weekends and sometimes during the week, and I often post them as group rides. Check Trailhead at imtbtrails.com forum; that's where several of us OC riders are active. Hope to see ya. Cheers...

Hello mrizzle. Check out the bike shops in your area for beginner rides, usually after work/school and on the weekends. Mr. Dino Brown, (on this site), leads a Sunday morning ride at the Fullerton Loop. A good beginner ride and breakfast afterwards. Good ride to hook-up with other riders. Also check out other bike web sites such as www.imtbtrails.com, mtbr.com, etc. One more thing. Welcome home bro! -Lloyd, U.S.Army '71-'77.

Thank you for your service Mike!!!

Also check out:

http://letsgooutside.org

Lots of group rides including a MTB Skills Clinic on 10/25 (not saying you need it :). Also hikes, runs...

You do need to register and sign up for specific events.

Have fun and happy birthday.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I will definitely check out the other sites and see what works. I am a newb right now so I don't mind checking out beginner stuff. I'm pretty much "out of" biking shape.

brparts: My wife is from Cupertino. I will be up there for Christmas and will be bringing my bike, as well as picking up hers. I will keep you in mind when we get up there.
