Extended Stay in Kern?

Anyone ever camped for more than a couple of weeks in the Kern area? I'm looking to set up for about a month and get some daily riding in starting around March(ish) and don't really relish the thought of coughing up $30/day for a place to camp. I see there's some dispersed camping available in the NF, but am wondering if there's something in between total lack of facilities and forking over the spoils of my hard labor.

You can camp free right at the site for the Keyesville Classic. I stayed there a couple of weeks last year.

No facilities except a restroom but it's pretty close to town and you can wash in the river.

Another camp/crash site would be Halfway campground-a free site that is upriver from Kernville, a couple of miles from town.

Eric's suggestion for the Keyesville area is probably the best.

I've always wondered about the area up by Chimney Creek/Chimney Basin. It's probably too far fron Kernville to be "close". There are supposed to be areas for extended camping up there, but I've never looked to hard.

You'll need to stay low as the snow is landing up high now. Keyesville is the good option. You can ride Keyesville, Kern Canyon, and a few other routes in the area. It's a little far from the Kern River Brewery, which is where I spend all my hard earned cash, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

If you were going later than March there would be LOTS of good long term sites up above the tree line and snow line.
