Hopefully I will still be alive at the end and dont off myself from the boredom and frustration. Broke my elbow and got a nice concussion last weekend after the stupidest crash ever. Slowed down for some hikers and i must have back pedaled when I sat down. Clipped a rock on the smoothest possible trail (literally the only rock in a ten foot radius in between a split rail fence). Instant ejection off the right side and now have a fracture of the radial head and neck in my right elbow. Also cracked my 5 month old Giro helmet. Best part was that the hikers walked right by and did not say a word. I was still clipped in when they walked by. Had to ride seven miles back to the car and then drove straight to the hospital. Xrays and a CT scan only took six hours and i was misdiagnosed with just a sprained wrist and mild concussion. Luckily I have a very good hand and arm doctor who took new xrays and diagnosed the fracture in less than 15 minutes. It was clear as day in his pictures. The worst part is the five minutes it has taken me to type this left handed hunt and peck style! Only seven more weeks to go.
Wow. Heal up quick. Something this messed up happended for something really good to happen and get your attention. ;-)
Hillarious ride report...ugh sorry about your injuries but isn't that just the truth my worst spills have been climbing one mile an hour....LOL Get better soon!
In a week or two get out there and start hiking...put some weight around your waist...do not think you can not get outside or stay semi-fit. Good Luck, stay positive.
Bummer.. sorry to hear that.. we're one week into 7 wks of downtime for my little guy Ryan.. he fractured his Tibia just above the ankle riding in Mammoth last week, so we can feel your pain (and boredom).. heal fast!
Man best wishes to you! I fractured my radial head and its a really tough spot to experience a fracture..I ended up having to get surgery on it a year down the line and things have gotten better! Just be careful with it and do not rush anything any joint fracture is toughh.
Injuries suck no matter what. 8 weeks is a pretty short time. Was off the bike for 7 weeks last year due to broken shoulder and 16 weeks the year before due to a broken ankle. Like bvader said above....get out and do some hiking.
You have never ridden uphill at one mile an hour! @Punk - that sucks dud. Healing vibes, karma, mojo, prayers and thoughts with you for speedy recovery. You should take up hiking while you heal - I hear it's terrific!
Sorry to hear that . Was is the Radius or the Ulna ? If they casted you be careful, letting a broken radius heal in bent cast will result in crooked arm. Make sure you are in a situation where you can bend the elbow. good luck
Thanks for all the healing vibes! I can feel the them already. I was riding Bernardo Mtn. at Lake Hodges and was at the very bottom coming to the fire road. In response to which bone, I broke the Radius at the head and neck. It is not displaced and I am not in a cast. Hopefully it is not a lingering injury and it will be over soon. If you hear a hiker telling you to pedal faster you probably just passed me on the trail!
