Mine says 2.0.1 Today it was doing something different with texting. It was giving me two different options to text. I had figured this had to do with some type of update.
I just picked up the HTC hero on Sprint and I'm loving it. Having never had a smart phone I have nothing to compare it to but it took me about a day of fun tinkering to get all set up the way I wanted it. The battery life is a bit short but I've found that by putting the proper widgets on one of the screens its pretty easy to turn things (bluetooth, wifi, network) on and off. The first week I wanted all of the updates but then I learned how to get Twitter and Facebook to dump stuff to SMS and now I turn the network function off and access it when I want to. It totally saves on battery usage and I don't really want things buzzin me in the middle of work. I'm gonna have to go look up some of these GPS apps as that's what I've been wanting to do, it would be awesome to be able to track my off road miles better. If you have Sprint go check out the Hero, it's worth it and at only $150 (after $100 mail-in-rebate...which radio shack takes away at time of purchase) with a new two year renewed subscription it was pretty hard to beat. I thought about getting an iPhone and changing to AT&T but I've been with Sprint for 13 years and beyond the usual stupid stuff I like Sprint and the coverage is fairly decent.
yeah, still waitin on my upgrade too. Still Love my droid Though. Its the shizz, I just need to remember to charge it. lol.
second battery works wonders! Thats what I have for the Moment. the Android 2.1 update should roll out on the Sprint network in the next few weeks. Love the Android...this is how a gadget should be!
I think I'm going to be ordering a couple of Motorola Droids (2.1 hopefully) from Verizon this week. They have a 2-4-1 sweet deal going on now, plus I have a $100.00 off with them on top of that. Which means I get 2 Motorola Droids for $99.00 plus tax with a 2 year contract. I keep waiting for the perfect phone to come out (iPhone not an option for me) and that seems to be never so might as well compromise and finally do away with my old, slow, sometimes unreliable but meets my needs Treo 700wx. My daughter needs a new phone and wants the Droid so I thought I'd take advantage of the deal. Feedback from existing Motorola Droid users would be great. Thanks!
I just ordered two. What sucked was the tax for $109.20. Why in the hell would they charge tax on an item listing for $559.99 each is beyond me!? Businesses love sneaking in hidden charges or charges most would not or could not question. If you're selling the device for $199, charge tax for $199.00, not $559.99. This is a very lame business practice. I called and they told me it's referred to as a "luxury tax". I asked if they had a legal disclaimer/a blurb about it somewhere and wouldn't you know it, they did not and had no idea what I was talking about. She said to contact my local town hall for more answers. Give me a big fat break. "Hello Mr. Mayor of Sierra Madre." LOL! This is the equivalent of buying a new car for $20K but paying tax on the retail price of $25K. Wouldn't fly! *The sales tax charged on your device was based on $1,119.98
I'm bummed because I got mine on my "work" account, and my wife got a stupid purple Motrola Rival on our "home" plan. I know she'd be stoked on the HTC Eris. Basically, ANY Anroid phone is an UPGRADEABLE platform, Where if you're the slightest bit of a hacker, you can configure it to look/work like many other Android phones. Shockingly, I haven;t rooted mine or installed any "funny" software at all. And I encourage the Dev's to keep improving the legitimate apps (most of which are free). Here's what I use Daily: Messaging Google Talk (visual VM, messaging) Email, 1 corporate, 2 personal Facebook Google Buzz GPS Voice search NAV (just talk to it, and it gets you there) MyTracks C:geo & Geobeagle (geocaching) Dolphin Browser Pandora misc games (I usually get bored before the end of the demo) I've installed some performance enhancement & convenience utilities. My battery lasts all day, and I have 5 screens to put shortcuts and widgets on. Yeah, Droid does it for me.
I just got 2 Droids a couple weeks ago and love 'em! Amazon had a deal for $50 each plus a 2 year contract. This was a big upgrade for me. The key pad takes some getting used to, lots of typos, but I like everything else about it.
Good move Joe. I am sending this reply from Miami on my bluetooth connected laptop, tethered to my G phone-all using free apps. Watch the battery usage and everything should be fine. My tracks will chew up your power as fast as a Mt Zion Loop.
