Just LIVE!
I've had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 14 years old. They found it in a urine test for my football physical for my freshman year of highschool.
They stuck me in the hospital for two weeks to get me regulated. I was pretty pissed off! I didn't feel sick, what the heck did I need to miss two weeks of summer football for?
Through the years I raced bmx, played football, ran track, and wrestled.
I was recruited for track and football from Navy, and when they found out I was Diabeteic, they shut the door.
YOU CAN'T PASS THE PHYSICAL!
After high school I applided to the LA Sheriffs Dept.
After filling out some paperwork, they saw that I was Type 1, and told me that I
CAN'T PASS THE PHYSICAL!
Those are the only two things in my life that Diabetes has kept me from doing!
I'm 43 now!
I do hard, manual physical labor, on graveyard, every night for a living.
I ride mountain bikes.....HARD!
Yes, I'm Diabeteic
I happily married, with three kids.
One, my boy JAKE, also has Type 1 Diabetes.
He's 14 now, and
he's had it since he was 10.
Yes, he's Diabetic
When he was first diagnosed, my friends and family would tell me how sorry they were to hear about Jake.
I would tell them, "
please don't be sorry, there are much worse things he could be diagnosed with".
Like cancer.
I tell Jake that if he takes care of himself, he will live a longer healthier life, than most of his friends.
We did the Tour De Cure every year, for the fist three years that he had it. We're missing it this year because I'm already racing in Oregon on the same weekend as the local Tour in Long Beach.
I guess what I'm trying to get accross is this......
No, it's not easy.
Contol your Diabetes, don't let it control YOU!
