I was cleaning up, repairing, my SS and noticed one of the chain ring bolts was spinning. Barely touched it with my finger and look what plopped on the floor. #-oThese are just plain old alloy BMX bolts. Do I hammer that hard or maybe I'm just plain chubby on the bike. Time for stronger ones!

On my first single speed I used a set of Truvativ Stylo cranks. The chainring bolts would not stay tight and I would weaken them by over tighening them and they would break. Used Race Face steel bolts, worked better but still creaked. From then on only use spiderless cranks on a single speed.

Ive broken the chain ring bolts on my race face deus crank. I was just tightening it and the head just sheared off. Ive replaced them with generic steel ones and they have been just fine. Its a couple grams heavier though. #-o

Definitely go with steel bolts. Sugino makes a good set.

I saw this happen to some guy while on a ride...........but he broke 3 of them on his granny so we zip-tied it (so as not to take the cranks off) and he finished his ride on his middle and big rings.
