Big Sur Trails?

Know any trails in the Big Sur area? I've looked around online and noticed most of the parks only permit hiking. I'm going with a group this weekend and don't know the area. a few us are bringing bikes.

as far as i know, it's just fireroads. i've seen a few trails that had some promise, but they're super steep. don't forget to stop and check out the elephant seals a few miles past hearst castle!

I've ridden up there a bit. Mostly fire road and wilderness area and it is patrolled.
Maybe some locals no something! Too much private property up there.

If you pass through Cambria, check in with the guy at Cambria Bike Outfitters for trail info.


There isn't much available - although a cool local might say different.

And they do patrol and will take your bike in certain situations.

All 3 of the Rangers I met with were cool and let me know what I could ride and what they didn't look at.

thanks for the quick responses. Ya, it sounds like ill have to find out from some locals or park rangers. I appreciate the help all. If i find anything noteworthy i'll let you guys know..

All the good riding is illegal. Check with Central Coast Concerned Mountain Bikers or Arts Cyclery in SLO or Cambria Bikes. Cone Peak down to Vicente Flat is awesome, but very illegal. It's pretty sacred ground up there...I have always wanted to ride it, but want it preserved even more, so i stick to hiking it.

Coast rd/middle rd is all fireroad, but I enjoyed it. Start at Andrew Molera State park and climb coast rd, heading north. Eventually it will drop you off on PCH where you cross a famous bridge and then ride south on PCH back to where you started, fun road ride if you don't mind the cars. You pass the lighthouse on the way back.
