Oh! OH! Oh! Let me give the short explanation.

It greatly stiffens up the front end, improving steering and control.

you nailed it, stiffness. the 20mm thru axle eliminates much of the flex of the fork. you will not really notice this (extra stiffness) for the most part unless you are riding pretty chunky stuff.

I asked this question on MTBR once, and I was told by at least 50 people that I might as well quit riding if I didn't get a 20mm fork. Well, I got one, and I can't really tell the difference!

that seems like a bit of a fatalistic response to a pretty simple question.

QR King hubs aren't convertible to 20mm.

The Hope Pro IIs can though, as well as some of the DT Swiss hubs.

dude...call Ck they can replace the shell and it may not cost as much as buying a whole new front hub...worth a call.

because they were going to replace my old shell so that it can accommodate disc brakes a while back.

I thought the reason for them was to use that nifty multi tool when you get a front flat. haha

Really though, it depends on what type of riding you are doing. I have 20mm on my dh and my bullit. The QR on my Tracer is just fine.

well thanks to the great sales some of the LBS and Jenson and all that I may get one...

Dave you have not seen me hit Cacti, if it improves steering Im all for it...kidding aside I think I just need more seat time in that aspect of riding..but upgrading for upgrading sake is so freaken fun..

What kind of bike? What kind of riding?

Personally, if more XC forks would use a thru-axle (esp. a Maxle) I would run them on all my bikes.

Dee it is in fact black but Im gonna think on this first...cuz new hub and new forks might be cheaper now with all the sales but is it a worthy up grade...

mostly XC, I do have to follow these clowns down some smaller trails now and then, its fun but I dont get enough exposure to fast singletrack riding so my skill set is.. well lets just say I'm the slowest one down. I know its all seat time but like I said upgrading is fun, and if Im gonna do it now is the time when retailers are feeling the ho ho ho spirit.
