I'm curious if anyone out there has used SpiderTech, or any other kinesio tape. I know the application is somewhat technical and extensive. Do you keep it on for one use, or is it something that can stay on a couple days? At $6.99 per, it could be pricey if you need to put it on every day for a couple weeks. I eff'd up my shoulder a few weeks back, and although I can ride with only a slight pinch, I'm not confident in it and don't feel I can rely on it if things don't go smoothly. Thanks for any feedback.
Yes, I've used the kinesiology tape. Mainly for my knees, but sprained a wrist and used it for that too. It works well, but it doesn't stick well in hairy areas. I would keep it on for as long as possible 3 days to a week. I had to shave the knees to get it to stick, but it help with the discomfort for sure. It held up reasonably well in the shower. Make sure you follow directions in application and watch some of the instructional videos online. The vids are helpfull.
Is it $6.99 per strip? You can get a roll of KT tape at Big 5 for $12. Rocktape is sticker. I've never tried Spider tape. Tape is only a band aid for the shoulder problem. Get it checked out. Plus, taking the tape off and putting on a new strip does a number on your skin after a few applications.
I was referencing the pre-cut shoulder product they have. Don't have the technical expertise to tape it up myself.
when i worked in physical therapy we used to use the tape sometimes; mainly for biomechanical training. we had really sticky stuff that stayed on for about a week but we had two layers as well. if you had a crash on your shoulder you probably have some impingement going on; the tape really won't do much for you. better to do some ice and shoulder strengthening in my opinion; tape is more for tracking or feedback.
I use rock tape and it helps support the muscles and therefore helps some of my stubborn flare up areas.. currently my knee.. I do the same ride twice once with the tape and once without.. knee hurts on no tape days, no pain on tape days..it helps but can not fix the main problem.. helps recover and support the weak areas..
KT Tape Pro is super sticky and easy to apply (see their website for videos showing self-application methods: http://www.kttape.com/instructions/). It seems to help some people more than others. For my wife (who's a runner), the stuff is like magic fairy dust, curing any and all injuries. It's not that effective for me, but it has helped ease some of the pain I have when I run.
