Anymore details on the weigh-in? Since the weigh in is saturday and so is the DH race, do I weigh in with fat tires? Cause my bike will be a pound lighter in the afternoon. How much is this "allowance" and how will they regulate it?

A lot of people camp at the racesite. Your kid won't mind at all. But, your wife might have issues. No facilities. No water and the restrooms will be porta potties. There are campgrounds just past the Keyesville turnoff. I think there are 2 or 3 State campgrounds around Lake Isabella. There are a couple of Private Campgrounds further up in Kernville. Plenty of choices.

One thing that you camping people may want to know is that there is a huge fishing derby on Lake Isabella this weekend. It draws 5000+ fisherman. They will not be in the Keysville area but they will be everywhere else. I would think that all of the campgrounds are going to be packed. Restaurants and motels should be equally affected. Plan accordingly.

They won't take Kernville w/o a fight, says I! We'll make our stand at the KRBC, and battle to the last man! Is it a Bass tourney? If so, no worries--those guys are pansies, and our women will set 'em straight while we snack on Buffalo Wings! A Catfish tourney, though...yikes. Things could get ugly fast.

There's probably a peaceful resolution out there somewhere, but damned if I can think of it.

To anyone upset by the preceding tirade, my apologies for the aggressive stance. It's just that I get a bit uptight when a potential blockade gets thrown up between me and a cool pint of Class V Stout. Talking it out helps.

    I'm better now.

It is a trout tourney. I'm not sure what that means. I will make sure I get my growler filled with stout goodness on Friday before the crowd gets here.

    Weather update....

Looks like a possibility of rain on Saturday night and into Sunday morning.... plan accordingly!

Highs in the 50's and lows in the mid-30's, overcast weather. Nice and cool for riding :)... snow above 5,000'.

No...if I drive up, I'll be bringing his stuff. If he's not coming up, then no need to bring it.

Then again, didn't Jefe say his knee was hurting last night?

Weigh in allowances. Just got the word from the organizers that the weigh-in for the All-Mountain stage will allow a 3 pound difference between the DH and XC weigh-ins.

They said that was based on the difference between a set of xc tires and light tubes and a set of 2.5 DH tires and heavy tubes.

RV's, Tents, and any other form of camping bar it be squatting is allowed in Keyesville. There will be BLM guys there with fire permits. I think they are free.

    Just bring water.

Perhaps, but in the spirit of the event, they're only allowing tire changes. But they did go to the extremes... an extreme lightweight tire/tube combo to a heavy DH tire/tube combo, so that's pretty generous.

Not sure about pedals though. I might want to put on flats for the DH.

At Downieville it was much more strict. Exact weight plus or minus a few grams for dirt/grease, etc, and they took a digital photo of the bike each day.
