gerry got 2 flats toward the end of the race. he was in 7th at that time. he lost 2 positions dealing with them. otherwise, he would of been under 6 hours!!! thats insane. his time last year was 8:30. thats an insane improvement for just one year!

For those of you who didn't get into Leadville for next year check out another awesome endurance race in Park City. I will be racing this year...can't wait. 78 miles on 95% single track with over 14,000 vertical feet of climbing and its a point to point so you never ride the same trail twice. check it out http://thepcpp.com/

I'll update later more at home... but we crossed the finish line in 13:20 on the tandem. Barely missed the 13 hour DNF cutoff, and missed the 12 hour silver belt buckle, but we never quit and were determined to cross the finish line. Made the Pipeline cutoff by 8 minutes so we could keep going. Hardest thing I've ever done on a bike. Never been that deep in the pain cave before. Awesome experience. Major congrats to anyone that participated!

Back from the (living) dead. Race is done. Took 11:51 to get it completed, but the day--minus one dead car battery at 4:00AM, one crash at 30MPH (and sore hip and knee as a reminder) and a bit more heat than I'd have preferred--was a great day to go on a nice group ride.

Looking forward to 2011 and shaving some time, but definitely a better result than last year's DNF. Thanks for all the support. Those that've been understand.

And congrats to Levi for knocking down an unhuman result all by himself. When I heard his time I thought there had to be a mistake. 6:16? You mean 7:16, right? No! OOF! Pedal damit!

Big thanks to Siren for putting a bike under me that I swear I thought was cheating a few times. That Song 29 is one fast bike. Brendan still won't tell me where the Speed Fairies are stored in the shop, but I know they are in my tubes somewhere.

Moving on to 24 o' Moab...

I had the pleasure of riding along side the first tandem crew for a while and I have to say once it came to the first descents, and were I the rider on the back (whatever the technical name), I'd have jumped right the f off the back of that bike. Not for all the money in the world would I ever trust another rider to take me down anything short of paved road. And even that would require at least half the money in the world. I almost ate it just watching in awe as a bike 2x the length of mine worked ruts and boulders. At that point I decided it was probably time to get away before I got more than a casual observation of tandem riders working together.

Most impressive, of course, is watching a couple work a bike and not argue about anything. I've seen an episode or 2 of the Amazing Race and I'd fully expect trailside blowouts filled with acquisitions of idiocy, ineptitude and who-knows-what-else-burns-deep. But not a peep. It's truly a tandem process when done right.
