    You can walk the course on Friday AND ride it. Sport/Beginner practice is from 15:00hrs until 17:00hrs.
    I am pretty sure you can walk it before then w/o the bike.

    Off the SRC Schedule;
    "3:00pm - 5:00pm Sport & Beginner Practice Walk up ONLY"

    No shuttles.

    The 5$ shuttle fee is going to allow you to WALK up. They will not have a shuttle Friday.

    Seems that downhill discussion is hot and heavy. :lol:

    If you're familiar with the typical Fontana course then I would say it's 90% the same as always. If you're not, then you'll experience a mix of double and single track with short steep "punchy" climbs and a mix of dirt ranging from gravel to sandy hard-pack with some real sandy sections. The bottom of the course has changed quite a bit. They've made some new doubletrack and incorporated that into the course. From the start you'll have a few passing opportunities before the course tightens down. About 5 min into the course is the longest climb and at the top are a couple tight ST sections. After that is the long ST section on the back. It's hard to pass on this section. After that is another climb and short ST decent. Then a flat section. Passing opportunities abound. Good luck.

    I can't believe people are whining about $5. Permits, insurance, course tape, stakes, course prep, spotters, fliers, port-a-potties, organization time - you whiners should try putting on an event. What do you get for your $5? Access to a DH course, an organized DH event and a first-aid tent. If you want to ride without paying $5 - go out on your own when there isn't an event. Knock yourselves out.

    It's only 4 miles per lap, but it's a tough 4 miles and will make you hurt pretty quick.

    For the cat 2/3 race I would say the start isn't as vital as it may be in a lot of races (although a good start always has some importance). After about half a mile in there's a long pavement climb that will give you a good chance to get your positioning. Unless you're looking for a top 3 I'd take it kind of easy from the start, then see what you can do when you hit the pavement.

    You can probably get a pre-ride in as your warm-up after the cat 1 race. The singletrack down the backside is mildly technical.

    Good luck.

    that first statement is oh so very true. #-o

    that second statement needs to be revised "to lose your positioning." LOL, i never do well on the fontana course. I like the faster courses like a couple weeks ago at bonelli. Still, I'll be there in the Cat2 seeing if i can make the podium again

    Like I said before. I paid $7 to practice ALL day with a shuttle(isn't it $5 for practice if your racing) and now I am paying $5 for the right to walk up for 2 hours. For me it's not that I can't afford $5 but it's hard to see why I am paying the exact same amount I paid all last year for all day practice with a shuttle to walk up a hill a few times. My thing is sometimes it's just like they are not thinking when they do these things. Just like last year when the first made all racers pay same amount for practice, yet some classes only had use of shuttle for days when others had shuttle for 3 days.

    Just like at the last race when that kid broke his leg during awards, I don't think any of us would want to be the responsible person in charge when insurance starts asking questions. Until someone else steps up to the plate and starts putting on DH races in SoCal, I'm gladly paying for what we have!
