Just signed up for the CC.

Looking foreword to meeting some of you on training rides so we can all suffer together before the BIG SUFFER.

As someone said before, if it weren't for all of you talking about this ride i would not have signed up.

Yeah, but he's holding out for a Lunch box, yknow? :)

This is brand new, frame only, less than $800. At least, I think brand new.

    CC and SS

Is doable. I do not ride SS all time and have done it twice. The VQ is rough on a SS and I wouldn’t consider it.

The real trick to riding a SS on the CC is walking the big hills and never stop except at the aid stations. Too many riders blast up Blackstar and try to be hero’s on the hills. By the time they get to Maple Springs they hit the wall before four corners.

There is no real advantage to ride a SS except for the challange………

I am thinking about signing-up for CC. I've been riding a year, never been on an "organized" ride before, and I probably would not be able to pre-ride the course ( I'm in San Diego). I would train for it, and I like a good challenge...somebody please convince me I am out of my mind...Other than the time and distance, what makes it so tough?

You should really try and get up there to ride at least some of the course. A good part of the miles is spent climbing up steep (sometimes loose) stuff. That being said . . . signing up and having that goal is a great motivator!

If you are not big on climbing, that'll eat up alot of your time. Some of the climbs are steep and loose. Making the cutoffs is what makes it tough. That said, only 1 person in "07" didn't make the 9:30 cutoff. Lots more didn't make the WHT cutoff. Not sure if any did not make the 4 corners cutoff.

As you said the SS is easier to push up WHT.

If there's mud you won't have a clogged derailleur.

IMHO mashing is more efficient that spinning gears. There's a lot of wasted motion/energy in spinning. It doesn't matter over short distances but in the long run your reserves will run out quicker. I prefer the stress of mashing to "rubber legs".

(Done VQ once on SS, once geared)

Agree.....if you have a hard time making the 9:30 at Motorway....you will not make the 4 Corners cutoff, let alone the WHT cutoff.

Don't forget, if you are one of the slower riders, there will be a ton of faster riders decending Trabucco while you are trying to climb it to get to WHT.....this does eat up some of your time.

Should not matter what kind of bike you are riding, er I mean hiking up WHT. THey all suck.

Just read this on the Warrior's Society Website:

We are expecting to sell out the 100 spots for Counting Coup shortly. As a result we are no longer accepting mail-in applications postmarked later than 10/3/07. If you would like to register you need to do so online at active.com.
