So I am thinking of crossing over to the roadie world, and I am wondering if those of you who double dip between the MTB and Road scenes have cycling shows for each discipline or do your shoes get double duty? If so, if it better to wear road shoes on your Mt bike or mtb shoes on your road bike? TIA.

I have 2 pairs of shoes. 1 for the road and 1 for the mtb. I have 2 helmet and gloves also.
But if you just want one shoe, get MTB and make sure you have the same type of pedals.

I would think if you are going to use 1 shoe for both it would be mtb shoes... I just can not see you hiking in Road shoes

you'll destroy your road shoes on your first HAB. Go with MTB shoes if you're going to settle on one pair, but ultimately you'll probably be more comfortable with the right tools for the respective job. I tried to ride my road bike in Sidi Dominators on Eggbeaters, and while I love the float in the pedals on my MTB, it felt wrong on the road bike.

I had MTB shoes for my CX bike which I use on the road. I used to use 2 different shoes, but now that I put the same type pedals on all my bikes(5). I can use the same shoe. Like others have said, MTB shoes for both if you had to choose 1.
:lol: It depends on what type of shoe!!!! My racing MTB shoes and my road shoes look the same except for the bottoms.

Its about the same as a MTB with slicks. Roadies hate to be passed by either.
I've ridden with guys who have different helmets for mountain and road (not just pulling the visor off). I dunno...shoes and helmets can be expensive. I have one pair of mountain shoes for 4 bikes -- fixed gear commuter, mountain bike, road bike, and our tandem. Spend the money on better bike parts, IMO.

Yeah, I use one pair of shoes (poor college student). I have had no problems racing mountain and crits in them, although they are getting a bit beat up. Just make sure they are good shoes and not the cheap touring/recreational lace up kind. A good stiff sole is needed.
Show up to mountain rides and people will be sporting a whole range of stuff. Show up to a roadie event and NOBODY will be rocking the cheap stuff.

Oh and my cheap ass Motobecane weighs about 25lbs anyway so its pretty much like riding a mountain bike anyway
