Everybody probably knows this already but...unless you have a gate card this is gonna cost $3 to get in the park. Or park across the street in the subdivisions if you can.

Or you could pay the $5 and support the park you use, the trails you ride, etc.

It's been a long time since I rode Chino Hills. Is Telegraph road the mellow fire road trail that runs through the park? I'm thinking of bringing my 10 yr old on a trail bike that attached to mine.

I just buy the annual pass every year and help support our local parks. Plus it makes it easier so I don't need to remember to have 5 dollars on me every time.

Call your local park first to make sure they are going to be there before you go down and buy the pass. Some parks only sell the passes between Monday-Thursday and they close for lunch too. The annual pass is 55 dollars. Plus having it gives me more motivation to get out and hit the trails so I can take advantage of it. :)

Yes. Telegraph is perfect for a bike trailer. I should try that with my 8 yr old.

There are 5 or 6 small water crossings to contend with but I'm sure by now, they aren't too much to worry about. I was there last Saturday and Sunday and they were more of a two foot wide trickle

JUST AN FYI RE THE PASSES: I buy them every year as well... You can buy them at any local OC park including Santiago Oaks, Irvine, Mason, Yorba Regional, Caspers etc and many others. If you are a senior (age 60+) the pass is only $35 ($55 for youngums). Really cheap considering it saves you $5 if you want to start from O'Neill, or Irvine, or Carbon Canyon etc. If you want to save money, have grandpa buy your pass for you. That's what I did as everyone's Xmas present this year!

You need to try the East Side of Chino Hills some day (Bane/Aliso Canyon). The water crossings there are definitely not rideable (well several are and I'm sure if an expert rider all would be)!!!! Some are really deep and wide (so wet shoes will happen!) and have to be walked. The Telegraph crossings are piece of cake easy!

If I wasn't working till noon I would definitely be there. I'm gonna try to pull 2 of my kids up to at least 4 corners in the bike trailer starting around 1:00.

I went up to CHSP today to do a little recon for our Saturday ride. Since the last light rain Sunday, the trail has some new tire and hoff ruts but otherwise is in good shape. There is signage at the Carbon Canyon entrance stating that the trail is closed due to unfavorable conditions. I spoke with the park rangers and they informed me that these signs were most likely left up from the December storms. Apparently, CHSP doesn't have state rangers or whoever patrols state parks down there that often so no one has taken the signs down. I got the go ahead from the Carbon Canyon park rangers to ride until my heart was content.

On a separate note, I also learned that peddling up hill against a 25 to 40 mph head wind is not that awesome. The winds were whipping though the canyon at sustained speeds. Plus, it was COLD! The winds are suppose to die down by Friday and it's suppose to warm up a little bit. Can't wait for Saturday!
