    Quick Update!

My Team and I have been out on course quite a bit the last couple of days! I have decided on a slight course change to bypass the sandy wash section near the start finish line. It isnt anything major, nothing you have to go preride. But it will be a faster funner way to get on course. basically racers will skirt the grassy area. On the way out you will go right on the dirt trail and cross the upper sandy area. But the sand there is only like 10 ft and rideable. On the way back the course goes to the end of the campground and down into the grassy area! Anyways just a quick heads up. Also look for a couple of either/or's on the course. Should make things fun and challenging where you want to! Were getting ready to head out to Vail For the race.
    Getting ready to rock!!:bang:
    See ya out there!

Here is my best shot at it.

Up (trail I dont know name but it goes along the fence and take you to the top of the marine corps climb). Down the marine climb. Around and up the canyon that takes you to the bridges climb. Go up two of the hills (not all three) and make a left down some new single track, name I don't know. Hand a left at the bottom and finish up the tunnel of love single track. Make a right before you do the last descent down to Vics and go up the ambulance road that usually takes you to the tunnel of love, but stay on the road up to the roller coaster ridgeline. Right at the bottom to the sidewinder trail (or named something like that I think). That loops around and then yo cross the dirt road on that little single track of an unknown name (you can finish the roller coaster and instead of turning on the dirt road at the bottom, you go straight across it, that singletrack). It dumps you out at Vics trail and you loop around Vics, loop around the BMX track, then finish.

    And by the way...

This course favors the technically skilled riders, not the fit roadies who also ride mountain bikes. You can make up a lot of time on the downhills over someone with lesser skills

    And...

Weather forecast says 80 (well it did when I checked earlier today) for race day, which would be perfect!!!! But I was out there a week ago and it was like 95. Hot and very dry! I also heard the wind picked up in the afternoon this past weekend at about 3pm. Gusts around 20-30mph blowing down the canyons.

    Anyone need a extra teamate??
Nothing worse that sitting on the side lines.

    Course play by play

    Ok here goes:

    -Start @ pool area
-Head towards sandy wash but turn left and skirt the grass
-turn left onto fireroad trail and head out to lake rd
-turn left and make u-turn onto lake rd
-turn right towards MArine Corps hill
    -down marine hill
    - left after marine hill and right towards bridges trail
-head up bridges and left at the top
    -head towards the summit
-just before the summit turn left down Tarantula switchbacks
-at the bottom turn left onto the tunnel of love
-before the end of the tunnel go right and head towards the Ambulance climb. ( USe the side singletrack that dumps you onto the Ambulance climb)
-at the top of the Ambulance climb turn left and head on to the Funner Ridgeline
    - Stay on Funner ridge all the way to bottom
    -turn right at the bottom
-turn right onto the Slingshot loop
    - go all the way around Slingshot
    - shot across the fireroad and turn left onto another fireroad
    -make right up into singletrack
-drop down left back to fireroad
    - go straight across and right towards Vics trail ( bottom of the Tunnel)
-turn left and up into Vics trail
    - shoot left and up into the BMX trail
    - go left at the end of BMX
    - go through the wash and around the oak tree and head back towards the go cart track
-head onto the corner of the rd and go to the left around the campground
    - follow the rd around, all the way till you get to the corner where the last campsite is (pools, huck finn pond is on your left)
    - turn left and this will be 2 way heading through the grass back to the start finish line!

    Whew that was tough!
    Alright there you go!
I know it is better in my mind!
    But best I can do!
Gotta go now and head out on course!
    See ya!

I"ve been on the fence with this race. I had some asthma issues this spring and am now pretty out of shape. But if a team is looking for another person I'd be up for racing. Just as long as you're not looking to be real competitive.

The only part of the new course that will be "interesting" will be the descent down the Tarantula Switchbacks. I can foresee some major clusters in this area come race day. If you are a solid descender, I suggest getting to the summit quick and getting down the TS section before you get stuck behind a bunch of people. It's a steep tight switchback section with a few large rocks and super soft turns. All of it is rideable, but some will prefer to walk it especially as the day gets long and the legs get tired.

Wish I could make this one but I will be gone this weekend. Good luck to all the racers!

I believe these are the same switchbacks that were in the SoCal 50....tight but rideable

Well I pre rode the course and those switchbacks are very tight, especially for a 29er. It will probably bottleneck going into it and it is tight and technical.

What a course!..The Ranoa Clan has outdone themselves and I hope everyone has a great time...enjoy this course, I personally like the slingshot single track.

One word of caution, The last two time out there have been plenty of snakes, Rosey Boa, Gopher and Finally a rather grumpy 4 ft rattler...And from the looks of the tracks across the trails there are plenty of them..So just keep your eyes open and be safe!

Slingshot is fun on the way back, but heading out (and up) it just seems to be a leg killer

    Last Minute word

Alright I am on site till Sunday!
You can setup pits anytime before the race. My suggestion is to get it done early. Early bird gets the best spots. Gonna be a good one.
Temps are looking like mid to high 70's!!!!!
    Dats right 70's!!!!!:bang:
Come on out and git r done!

70s? I might have to use my arm and leg warmers for this race. Good thing we aren't up at Rim Nordic, there may have been snow!

FYI to anyone going out that doesn't have an EZ up. I am riding the race solo and don't have a pit crew (well my wife will be there for the first few hours), but am still putting up my EZ up on pit row. If anyone else wants to join me PM me and we cna meet up. I should be out there friday.

Just rode the trail and there is one down hill at the beginning that will cause a lot of backing up and alot of people eating crap. Steep sharp turns with lots of soft sand. Not going to say I am an expert biker but I can ride Noble Canyon with no problem and have come across very few trails I have ever had to walk downhill but I had to get off and walk a corner that was too soft and too sharp to get down the first time. Second time it was not a big problem but I can see lots of people having trouble with that downhill and there will be lots of traffic there.

The rest of the trail is awesome and it will be tons of fun. See you all tomorrow.

Sometimes there is an STR tent, not sure about this event. My group will have 6 people out there (1 solo & a 5-person team), look for my 1983 yellow pickup truck, it's hard to miss:

If you see this truck come say hi. We'll have tools and a bike stand as well.
