Tomorrow is 90% chance of rain with thunderstorms. Not sure I'd want to be climbing on a big piece of metal at altitude.
Weather Thursday was mostly good. It got pretty windy close to beeks place.

Should be nice for monday if the weather held off as much as here in the IE. If ya go monday, let me know. I need a climb day to get the funk out of my lungs.
Edit: Just checked Silverado weather, looks like biggest chance of rain is this evening. Wonder if Maple holds up well after a bit of rain? I'm so used to Sycamore draining great, i don't know about other areas.

Just finished Ol Camp.. Ride was off the Hook !! Excellent conditions - only down fall would be chilly. When i got back, someone asked me how was the mud - i said what "MUD"
Ride 1:38minutes and maybe 42/45deg =)

Maple is usually OK if its light rain. Anything substantial and you end up with clayed up tires.

Hey all, Was up there (Sunday morning 1/6) kinda muddy... not sure what the ride really has to offer.... got up quite a bit ( to the first sight of concrete) maybe 3-4 miles up? was hurting quite a bit, not used to the climbing yet but i'm sure i will get there... is it just all brutal climbing? lol

For me, yes. Until i get past the gate. I turn towards the Doppler and from then on, its painful. I've never gone up to Sierra. That seems like it just keeps climbing as well.
I suppose its a good way to get some climbing legs. No pain no gain. I just seem to get the pain part of that statement.

Haha, I can imagine... i guess there is no shame in a 5 min stop right? how long does it average to get to Sierra?

It takes about another 20-30 minutes past Beeks to get to Sierra Peak....then about the same back.

I have yet to do Sierra Peak, i did however do B* to Motorway. I did hear it gets Muddy out there.

FWIW: There's parking along the road near the beginning of Maple, and a pass is not needed if you park on the shoulder - only in the parking lot right at the gate. And the Maple-Motorway route is really, really easy to navigate. If you can get to Old Camp & back as quickly as you mentioned, you'd probably enjoy Maple/Motorway.
Blackstar is a pretty steady climb all the way, with just a couple of pitches that are very slightly steeper. If you got to the little paved bits, you were about halfway up and close to Hidden Valley, which gives you a brief downhill/level stretch to rest on before the climbing resumes. The views also get better as you get further up. Once you're comfortable with the Blackstar climb, Maple Springs is a nice step up and much more scenic. It's about a mile longer with about 500 feet more climbing. The first three miles are paved, but the last mile of the pavement is a steeper, soul-sucking p.i.t.a.
