Hey man, sorry it took so long to get back to you. There are some cool places to ride in the san gabriel mountains about a 45 minute drive from the south bay.

Take the 110 N to the 210 W Exit at Arroyo/Windsor, make a right. head up the street for a half mile or so and you will see a parking lot on the left. Park a car there or on the street close by. Then get back on the 210 W and take that a few miles to Angeles Crest hwy. Take that for a while until you see the Redbox Parking area, turn in there and head up the road a few miles until you see the trail head for the Mt. Lowe railroad trail. This is the top of an epic downhill about 17 miles or so with about 2 of climbing.

Start on the Mt. Lowe railroad trail, it climbs for a few minutes at first, then it starts down, it's like a fire road for a while. Then you will come to the intersection for Inspiration point/Sam Merrill Trail, I usually head to inspiration point to check out the view it's pretty sweet of all of LA. Then head back to the intersection and go down Sam Merrill, it's marked. This is them most tech part. Once you come out of Merrill you will take the connector on the right to Sunset Trail. There are signs for it. This is a short climb to a paved section. Once at the paved section go down about 100 yards or so and you will see the Sunset Trail under a big tree. Take that trail until it ends. Just before the gate you will see a single track that heads down towards the right. Take that, it follows the road down into the canyon, this road goes to a campground. When the single track spills out into the campground take the fire road up, you will have to cross some water here. Take the fire road a couple of miles and you will see a single track that drops down to the left. This is called El Prieto, take this single track all the way down untill it comes out to a paved section and follow that out to your car. See the google map I attached for driving/parking.
