I'm going to try my first endurance event on June 25th! - two man 6 hour race.

Anyone else going? I booked a camp site at Dripping Springs on the Friday night before rather than make a three hour drive from Van Nuys Saturday morning. Never been to this part of California so not sure what to expect.

Haven't been on STR for ages since it sort of imploded but it looks like the site is working again.

Wingman - my buddy Aaron, he's a high school MTB team coach and way faster than me.

My weapon is a Performance brand (Access Stealth) Chinese carbon 29er hardtail with Fox 100mm fork. I've used it to race Southridge's XC course so it can handle some technical riding. If anyone spots me feel free to say hi! Tall lanky blonde guy with a white Toyota truck.

If we split the riding I only need to hang for 3 hours of fast riding which I think is doable. How do people usually split up the riding duty? I figure my legs will get cramped up if we switch off every other lap.

Since a 6 hr race is really a sprint race in terms of endurance racing......

Break it up into 2x 3 hr races. 6 hrs is too short to sprint for 1 hr, sit for 1 hr, sprint for 1hr....etc.

Vail lake laps are only about 8-9 miles....so 3 laps is only gonna run you 24-27 miles, and likely less than 3000' of climbing total.

If your buddy is faster, have him go first, knock out the first 3 hrs, then you can take the 2nd 3 with a bit less pressure.

I did all 3 12hr races solo last year on the SS. The June race this year looks to have the easiest course I have seen of the last 5.

This sounds like a good plan! I'm working on getting back into shape again.

Ah, my Cannondale is long gone - I had an '07 Rush I bought in high school. STR tanked a while back and I stopped visiting so the CDale logo is a remant from those days, I gotta update my avatar! Don't miss the Rush though - damn Lefty (SLR? - it was 110mm of travel) needed a rebuild almost every year that I owned it.
