I got back on my back today for the first time in a couple of years. I headed out for an easy 6 mile ride and all went well until I got back home. Somewhere along the last 1/4 mile or so my 2008 fox float RP2 blew out at the pro peddle selector. I looked on Fox and it's going to run me a minimum of $145 to rebuild, but I can pick up a 2016 Fox Float DPS right now for $272 online. Should I just say screw it and get the 2016 or go with the rebuild? I'm not looking to spend a ton of money right now, but I'm afraid as to what they are going to find when they open my shock up. As a matter of full discretion it has never been rebuilt, but it has worked like a champ up till now.

A third option might be to send your RP2 to Craig Seekins at Avalanche racing and have it repaired, rebuilt and custom-tuned for you and your bike for about the same price as a Fox "rebuild." I am assuming Avalanche will still do a 2008 shock. I had that done to a 2013 CTD and it was MUCH better than new when I got it back, and it cost about $120 at the time, and was done in a week. I think it's $179 now. Craig's designs were very much like Fox/Trek's new Reaktiv shock, 10 years before Fox/Trek/Penske "developed" it.

My new bike has the fox dual piston system and I gotta say I really like the extra setting with firm for climbing. In fact I like it alot!
Good luck, Steve
