Whats up! my name is Alex

it all started with a Trek Antelope I found in the junkyard and now I have myself a Diamonback Trace dual sport. I wasn't so sure about the hybrid being able to handle the trails but i pushed myself to take on Peter's Canyon with the 40c tires with street tread. The ride went well. I am sorta comfortable riding there because I feel like I can really control the outcomes and I want to push myself to become a better mountain biker!

My future plans are to rent beastly trail bikes and hit up Snow Summit!

What's up Alex! Welcome to the forums. You should also check out Santiago Oaks nearby Peters Canyon. There's good riding over there. Dino used to give the customary welcome but He and ~30 (aka guests that don't login) members went AWOL. Lol. Cheers!

Yup! I'm local in the area.My first trail bike was a Target Mongoose that I rocked for 3 years. I would probably still have the bike if it hadn't sent me straight to the ER. Haha!

Also near Peter's Canyon is Irvine Park. Doesn't sound like much but its a nice easy ride if you're just getting into the saddle, or returning to the saddle. I used to go there quite often when I was looking for a nice relaxing ride. I'm based in Anaheim so I'm not that far from you. Welcome to the forum either way. Its gotten rather empty so it's nice to see new faces.

Irvine Park is just like riding through Peter's Canyon. Its a quite a bit of fun. There's only 2 mildly challenging climbs on the main trail and the rest is mostly sailing. Nothing too crazy. If you want some company at Irvine give me a shout.

With the amount of hikers in Peters Canyon.....you shouldn't be bombing down any of the hills there.

Blackstar is an all around good trial for all. If it seems easy, you pedal more and go faster. If it seems to steep, you mash your way up. I live / work near Peters and Blackstar. Hit me up and I will join you for a spin :)

This site was a community MTB hub for many years. It's isn't now, primarily (IMO) because the site was decimated by viral attacks and in general was slow to have technical issues addressed. People lost reports and other useful content, so, when a different SoCal MTB site revved up (with very proactive management), many left for that site or other means of networking.

IMTBTrails.com is where many formerly active members of this site went. Your chances of hooking up for rides will be much better there than at this ghost of a formerly active site.

Alex, have fun getting into it. Lots of good times and comraderie to be had. I hope to see you on a ride...

We are still alive and kicking. I could be wrong but I thought STR had some rule about promoting other sites.

STR can't afford to have too many rules right now - tumbleweeds and spiderwebs...

There has never been a ban on promoting other sites except one, Dirttreadders. They are a group of San Diego riders who left this site when one of their riders was banned. When they complained of the ban, the owner of this site told them if they didn't like it, they could start their own. They did and that left a lot of hard feelings when they left. That is the only banned site I know of in the eight years I have been here. Now I noticed that the site is letting me print the name so the ban might not still be in effect. -Lloyd

    Thanks for the possible lowdown.

When my ride reports here reappear I'll stop talking about other sites. Until then, feel free to ban, censor or slag me. I have nothing to lose here. No animosity. Party on, STR...
