Just curious as to how long it usually takes you guys to do gate to gate up blackstar and what's your fastest time are.

I made a bet with my coworker that I would be able to do it in 45-minutes. I would like to see how long it takes everyone else.

45 minutes is pretty damn quick.

I think my best is 49 minutes, on the SS. That sound right Bryan? Or was that from the car? We would just start at 6:30ish on the wednesday B* rides and try to race the sunset...much more interesting than the clock!

dB: was that on the SS, or the geared bike?

i pulled an unofficial 55min once. I stopped to water a bush once, and stopped again to check out a random trail off to the side.

it was 6:10 when I left the gate, and sundown was at 7:01, and i was just a few minutes behind that (timmy made it at sunset that day)

45 minutes is a rockin fast time. prolly gotta be on a SS to pull that in all honesty. I could probably break 50 if I was in shape again (I went from rectangle back to round over the last few months), and forgo the breaks

geared. I hate doing B* on the SS, not because of the climb, but because of the flats at the beginning/end and the valley.

Got to ride up Bstar with Daniel who has the CC record... Gawd that guy is fast. He helped pull me to the gate in 49, but dusted me after the downhill section.
    A guy I know did 38 min...FML

fair enough. in my experience, though, the road past the gate is pretty much the perfect incline for my cadence/ratio. I can haul up it.

I'd say a lightweight 1x9 could really do some damage though. there's at least a minute or two to be lost in the valley if you've got a higher gear.

Best I've done was 42 minutes back when I actually cared about training/racing:) Nowadays I probably average in the 48 minute range.

Anyone want to organize a weekly "for sure you're going to get dropped" ride? It would basically be the opposite of a no-drop ride. Wait for no one....stop for nothing.

Would anyone actually show up if this was a weekly thing? Someone other than me organize it though:)

    Yeah, 45min is pretty quick.

Best time for me is 1 hour - once.

Interesting idea...maybe with a road cassette? Tall gears for the flats, with the 18 or 20 for the steeper sections.

I actually really like that idea. Nothing like chasing to get faster.

that would be pretty awesome (and most probably painful). but what would we do with whoever was unfortunate enough to get to beek's last?

timmy, if your soma has a der. hanger, I've got an X9 setup and some spare cogs. we can see how fast you can actually go :)

No way man......immediate turn around at the gate and race back to the bottom!

I've often wondered if a round trip gate to gate to gate could go under an hour.....

If you can pull a sub-50 minute time up on a 1x9, you could pretty easily pull less than 10mins to the bottom, assuming decent conditions for fast-ass turning.

it can be run with a derailleur as is. Hmm...let's discuss this at roscoe's later Bryan. A beer or 2 in me and i'm sure i'd be down to try it.

Great Minds think alike! I more or less built a machine for this challenge.

06 S-Works HT with Ritchey WCS Rigid Carbon Fork and 1x9 x9 drivetrain weighing in at 18lbs!

Sounds like it's going to be harder than I expected it to be but at least it sound possible! :bang:

I also dig the idea of having a drop all race to the top. It'll would be an awesome sight watching a bunch of mountain bikers off their saddle and cranking it up a hill all out!!!

I think we're going to have to see some Garmin data here Timmy? Sundials don't count!

I know Hugh's been talking about that gate to gate to gate in under an hour. I just about died laughing when he said it.

    Me: ~53min. on my 26lbs singlespeed 29er.

    49:48 on my 24lb. 29er gearie.

I think if I truly cared anymore I'd try it with actually warming up for an hour or so before hand or having someone faster than me to chase. But shiet, I broke 50min. and I just about went into cardiac arrest doing it. But alas, I eat too much and ride too little so I'm happy with that.

45min is very fast. That's a nice target to shoot for.

If I was on a no drop ride up there; all you guys better bring a couple/lot of beers to have at the top!
I've only done it once, and not all the way even. About 1:15 to a big turn past Hidden Valley with a mile and half or so to go. It was about 95ºF that day though. With reasonable temps I mighta knocked a couple of minutes off.

I'll let you borrow mine, it works great! (and also makes tasty popcorn! great for that extra energy boost you might need towards the top)
