I dont understand the distust of carbon if it is strong enough for formula 1 it is strong enough for a DH bike.

    Devil's Advocate:

    Formula 1 teams are sponsored.
Formula 1 cars are designed to last only one crash.

Im sure its strong, but impact resistance ? One otb in a rockgarden could lead a catastrophic crack in the resin, no thanks, f1 cars aren't deisgned to handle impact. Ill take one an a 100% no questions asked replacement policy

Formula 1 cars are designed to provide ultimate stiffness and lightweight chassis which will protect the driver in the event of a crash. A chassis can last a whole season if it doesn't crash, and they (the teams) are probably some of the most knowledgable people on how to utilize and manufacture carbon bits.

Sounds like some of the USF1 guys who got canned might have a second life designing bike frames!!!

Minny took first so I assume the new sled is workin'... but it's crazy-- CARBON wheels on a DH rig-- . But man, oh man... this thing is BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL. Carbon fibre... is there anything it can't do?

For all those folks who are against carbon fibre bikes-- have you actually taken one out for a real ride (and not just bunny hopping around in a parking lot)? I'm on an M3 forum (my other toy) and it was amazing to see how much hate I saw from the E46 owners saying the new version sucked even though they had never set foot inside the car (let alone had actually driven one) and given accolades by every single auto magazine review. It's funny to see the same thing happening here. Change and advancement are things some folks don't take well.

I've seen carbon fiber take a serious beating in military equipment through the years and it still keeps going-- IF BUILT PROPERLY. And I believe the boys and gals at Santa Cruz, Ibis, GT, Scott and others have been building their works of art properly.

Take a look at a few exotic sports cars these days, they are using carbon fiber chassis. The Lexus LFA for instance, carbon fiber. If its good enough to pass crash testing in a car, its good enough for a bike frame.
