Where to even begin....how about this:
The VooDoo frame cracked last Sunday and ye'olde Rocky Mountain cracked this Sunday!

The good news thus far is that VooDoo is sending a new frame out on Monday. :bang:I'm hoping it was only a bunk frame.

Looks as though I should still be under warranty on the Rocky (5 years - purchased when I first got to Cali in Nov. 2004 from SuperBlow). No local dealers within ~1.5 hours so I'm on my own with this one.:?:

Even if Rocky does cover it, I figure I'm still stuck buying new suspension at the very least.#-o

If Rocky doesn't cover it, anyone know where I can get a good deal on a Turner (or Titus, or Ventana, or Santa Cruz, or Yeti)? ;)

I haven't put on that much weight since leaving Cali nor have I been riding crazy hard or anything. Somehow I must have been due for some baaaaaaaaaaaaaad karma...8-[

    What a pisser!

That is truly unreal. The New frame Gods must be trying to tell you something.

Sorry to hear this. Then again...a new Turner wouldn't be an all together bad thing....

those are some pretty gnarly cracks. are you a really heavy guy doing alot of big drops? you didnt even crack around seams so you must be doing something pretty hardcore. good luck with the new frames! make sure you have your bikes setup for the type of riding you do!

Sorry to laugh, but those of us who know Lance can tell you that if his tires leave the ground it is a rare occurance  I can see the RM breaking, but the Voodoo on the downtube like that is hairy! 8-[ I think its safe to say you probably won't break anymore frames for awhile.

rmb socal might be able to help you with the RM frame. He is the SoCal sales rep for RM. Even though you're not in the area, it's always good to know someone.

Thanks for all the replies and photo!

The good news is that I talked with "the shop" at Rocky Mountain today and the dude said it's pretty much an "open and shut case" and they should replace it with a 2008 ETSX-50 or 70! Due to model year differences, they'll throw in a seat post, front deraileur, AND (drum roll) REAR SHOCK:bang:!

I'll probably get a new crank/BB as I never changed or serviced them, so it's probably as good a time as any to change. And while technically my 100 mm fork will work, the new ETSX's run from 100 - 140 mm up front (and 100 - 130 in rear), so I'll probably be asking santa for a new fork/headset while I'm at it. And of course there will be the obligatory replacement/cleaning/upgrade of cables and other miscellaneous items.

The bad news is that I "have" to go through a dealer and the closest Rocky dealer is about 2 hours away . And the new 2008 frames won't come out until mid/late Oct. Wouldn't be as big of a prob if I had my SS to ride and hadn't just planned a camping/mtb trip to the Western NC mountains #-o!

So all in all it looks like things will be OK given some time. Though I admit that I feel like a caged animal without a bike to ride! 8-[

Jordan, we tried to ride that one time at aliso, but you had to take off. That picture Skeeter (lucas?!?!?!) posted just about captures the massive hucks and air that I'm likely to bomb!

Granted I've been riding "hard" around here, I just can't believe that my riding here would be any more stressful on my bike than Cali's trails. I'm still not one to catch air, but I won't let most other obstacles stop me. And weight-wise I weigh a bit more than I did in Cali but less than I did in TX, so I figure that's a draw.

The way I see it, the VooDoo was just bad luck and a bunk frame and the Rocky was 3 years of solid riding taking it's toll. Karma-wise, I know I "lost" a "few" fish while doing my doctoral research, but sh!t, now I ensure that the state of of NC adheres to the Endangered Species Act! That's gotta be worth something! :?:

Stay tuned as I'm sure I'll be ax-ing around STR for fork/parts advice as I rebuild The Legend of Ye'Olde Rocky Mountain:bang:!!!

I'm glad to hear you're being taken care of Lance.

If you ever find your way back here to study the mating habits of yellow peckered fence lizards look us up. You are truly missed dude.
