Hello all!! quick question.. Got invited to this Yosemite trip and would like to ride my mountain bike and dirt bike there if possible. Question-s, Any one know where to find trail info and will they let me ride my dirt bike there? << green sticker oNly8-[ >> thanks much for the help if any:bang:
Jose inside the National Park bikes are only allowed on the pavement. Will you be on the Yosemite Valley side or Tioga side. I know of a short ride at Saddlebag Lake.
The only area I think you are allowed to ride within the park is on paved roads in the valley. However, there are many great trails that you can do just outside the park near the south entrance, including some by giant sequoias. I went the the bike shop in oakhurst and they were very friendly. They gave me a map of the local trails along with some suggestions. Their website has some trail info as well: http://www.yosemitebicycle.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=91&Itemid=86
+1 on Oakhurst bike shop. They are great. I got the same map. They'll highlight it for you too. Trails are near Fish Camp. Nice area. Lime green line is the moto area.
We're camping on Hodgdon Meadows, Is that close to the Saddlebag Lake? So, NO dirt bike than?[-protest:](*,) http://maps.google.com/maps?rlz=1T4...dgdon+Meadows&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl Dean, looks like I'm near the Tioga side correct?
i just spent a week at yosemite, did not take the bike. there are no trails that you can ride in the valley, only the paved ones. there is a trail south of bass lake. MTBR has a review of it on there website. go to review, calif all other areas, 007 trail. hope this helps. when in the valley there is a main parking lot and they have free shuttles going to all the places you want to see. also take the open air tour, well worth the money.
Although there are no MTB trails inside the park, riding a bike on the paved bike path(s) is IMHO the best way to explore Yosemite valley. Much more enjoyable and convenient than by car or on foot. R
As you are driving to the park on 41 take the second left that has a sign for Miami Creek (yellow highlight) and unload at the parking lot about 1 mile in. There is a fire road that makes a big loop with a ton of singletrack offshoots. Remember these are moto trails and can be verry difficult going up, but a blast going down. The fireroad that's by the first section of the parking lot is all downhill for about 3-4 miles with nice berms, you will be able to rail these and have a blast.
There are a few places you can ride your bike inside the park where cars can't go. There is a little known brochure with the trails listed, you have to ask around, some the rangers don't know about all of them. One i liked was an old road that isn't maintained and has a closed gate, it takes you a few miles in to a really cool geyser (lone star or something like that) that you'd otherwise have to hike to see. Another is an old fire road to a peak. If you have your bike, check 'em out.
If you come in for Highway 395 the turnoff to Saddlebag Lake is close to the Yosemite East Gate. Here is RR I did. http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/ride-reports/39713-saddlebag-lake-trail-tioga-pass.html
