A few of us hit up Noble today and we had our share of carnage. A dented seatstay, a broken derailleur hanger and a broken frame.

The broken frame happened to me.#-o

The rear-most weld on the left chainstay snapped and when it did, it took the carbon seatstay lug with it. Well, I'm just guessing the weld went first. The carbon lug is a faux-pivot and made to flex. Those typically only snap when you run an 8" rear brake rotor and subject them to too much braking force.

Needless to say, I had a long walk back to the car. Just a nice romantic stroll through the forest with my bike.

I have yet to call Yeti of course, but I'm sure they'll be cool about it. They were when they warrantied my front triangle last year.

That truly sucks man, I hope you didn't have to walk too far. Maybe it's time for something else?

I think I'm for sure going with the Giant now. I'm gonna pass on the 575.

Ya--talk to my buddy who has snapped his Giant AC twice.:)

Nah, I'm good with the Yeti. I'm a big guy at 220 lbs and ride pretty hard. Stuff like that is bound to happen. It's an '05 rear triangle, so it's been put through a lot already--still under warranty though.:);)

I know it's a feature on bikes that get ridden hard. I know of people that have broken Kona's, Specialized's, Trek's, Gary Fisher's, Turner's and Giant's--just off the top of my head. I know a guy that broke a Zion recently too. Just kidding dude. I know it happens and I'm not too bummed about it.

I agree. I always wondered why they used it, then I read on MTBR that it's used as a faux-pivot. Seeing as it's made to flex, I think the weld probably went first and took the lug with it. I sure heard that carbon snap though. It sounded like someone snapping a dry stick.

OUCH--salt in the wound Rob.;) I was actually VERY close to EP'ing a Spot frame, then the shop I work at had some sort of issue with Turner and we're no longer a Turner dealer. I would be all over one though if the opportunity presented itself.

Didn't Steppie break a Spot though? Or was it an RFX?

5 year. The weld on the seattube just above the chainstay pivot snapped on me back in October and Yeti warrantied it no questions asked. They even sent out the new front triangle before they received the old one.

I figure this one should be no different.
