Everyone was excited to see new blood in the Presidential seat. We have been under Clinton/Bush rule for almost 20 years combined so it's understandable.

However, despite having a new face and way of thinking for a president. We STILL have the same greedy, self important, ulterior motive thinking bastards in congress and the senate.

Hell I remember when I was a KID, Arlene Spector being a representative from Pennsylvania.

These bastards are the reason we have not had any change. You can change the president but the same guys who didn't let anything get accomplished are still in office!

Are there no term limits on those positions?? or are they good till they die?

It's no wonder our country is starting to take on that "third world country" feeling.

I could go on but I would just get more disgusted.

The fault lies with those that keep electing them to office.

and if you throw out term limits, you have a bunch of people with no experience.

wuddya gonna do?

craig's right, but at the same time you have to have fair districts drawn so that the other side at least has a chance to vote someone in.

smokers? smacktalkers? gluttons? who ya talkin about...

Quixotism is dead

As-If, there is and always will be a ruling class and billions of influential reasons why peons cannot change it. Targeting the the elected marionettes is what they are there for but will not change the underlying locus of control.

I see too many times where people complain about this and that, but at the same time takes no action. Most people I know who complain about the politicians in office and ask them if they voted in the last election, 9 times out of 10 the answer is "no".

People talk about how "new to office" politicians have no experience, then how are they to gain them? I feel that lack of experience does not necessarily equate to lack of ability.

Just the smoking, glutenous, smacktalker talking here....

The president is a scapegoat..

Everyone blames him for the problems not getting fixed yet they are the ones who can't solve the issue.

"experience"????? What does that really mean? Would you trust a person that knows what everyday America really wants? Or do you trust a person that has never really done anything in society and is a lifetime politician? I'd trust a small business owner with no college degree over somoene who has made a successful business over a person who went straight from college to politics.

i appreciate where you're coming from, but the majority of politicians had successful careers before they were elected (except for the bono-style spouses who step in, never quite understood the sense of that. actors/sports stars are another exception. there are probably more...).

but look at the private sector. people who are successful rise to the top and stay there as long as they continue to produce. it should work the same way in politics, at least until they leave the country to have a taxpayer-funded affair (i've always heard argentinian chicks were the best).

Dell, I don't think the OP was seeking out a national debt resolution. At least not in two months like your solution suggests....

Speaking of National Debt Resolution...

When was the last time you ran out of money before payday and ran to your boss and asked for more? I bet he'd tell you to go F yourself.

So why does a gov't spend more than it has and then ask for more?

Earmarks... so much talk about not having them in the budget yet tons get passed. Bullshit pet projects to keep their states happy. A budget of a few million to build a tunnel for turtles to go under a freeway in some state....and other more meaningless BS.

We are trillions in debt but Hillary Clinton goes overseas and pledges millions of dollars to some country for aid.. millions we don't have.

It's time for a political revolution!!!!

citizens run out of money and borrow more every day (it's what keeps the economy afloat). they're aren't too many of us that don't have a mortgage, car payments, credit card debt, etc. at least government projects produce jobs and revenue, and if they save some endangered turtles- cool.

and let's not bash hillary. she's doing what every secretary of state has done- greasing the wheels. that's how we build and maintain allies. and that's how we got so many other countries to go in with us in iraq, even though they probably knew it was a waste of time/money/lives. hell, we took lots of money post-katrina from countries worse off than us.

americans wouldn't revolt unless they could do it from their couch.

you might want to give obama more than 5 months before you run up the "mission not-accomplished" flag...

after bush's first 5 months, the only things he had "accomplished" were to drop the cabinet-level position of counter-terrorism and to drag his feet on warnings about an imminent al quaida threat.

but that's not all. from the baltimore chronicle:

Bush's first six months in office: a sobering list

From vetted sources Whatever your beliefs, know what your President is doing. Here is a list of George W. Bush's administration's work during the first six months of his term in office:

• Significantly eased field-testing controls of genetically engineered crops.
• Cut federal spending on libraries by $39 million.
• Cut $35 million in funding for doctors to get advanced paediatric training.
• Cut by 50% funding for research into renewable energy sources.
• Revoked rules that reduced the acceptable levels of arsenic drinking water.
• Blocked rules that would require federal agencies to offer bilingual assistance to non-English speaking persons. This, from a candidate who would readily fire-up his Spanish-speaking skills in front of would-be Hispanic voters.
• Proposed to eliminate new marine protections for the Channel Islands and the coral reefs of northwest Hawaii. [San Francisco Chronicle, April 6, 2001]
• Cut funding by 28% for research into cleaner, more efficient cars and trucks.
• Suspended rules that would have strengthened the government's ability to deny contracts to companies that violated workplace safety, environmental and other federal laws.
• Okayed Interior Department appointee Gale Norton to send out letters to state officials soliciting suggestions for opening up national monuments for oil and gas drilling, coal mining, and foresting.
• Appointed John Negroponte—an un-indicted high-level Iran Contra figure during his tenure as U.S. Ambassador to Honduras—to the post of United Nations ambassador.
• Abandoned a campaign pledge to invest $100 million for rain forest conservation.

• Rescinded a proposal to increase public access to information about the potential consequences resulting from chemical plant accidents.
• Suspended rules that would require hardrock miners to clean up sites on Western public lands.
• Cut $60 million from a Boy's and Girl's Clubs of America program for public housing.
• Proposed to eliminate a federal program designed to help communities (and successfully used in Seattle) prepare for natural disasters.
• Pulled out of the 1997 Kyoto Treaty global warming agreement.
• Cut $200 million of work force training for dislocated workers.

• Banned federal aid to international family planning programs that offer abortion counseling with other independent funds.
• Closed White House Office for Women's Health Initiatives and Outreach.
• Nominated David Lauriski—ex-mining company executive—to post of Assistant Secretary of Labour for Mine Safety and Health.
