So to continue my excursions around Mt. Baldy as posted last Friday, I again went up to the Notch, but this Friday set aside more time and made it all the way down to Stockton Flat in the northern shadow of Mt. Baldy. I've done the climb from Manker Flat to Baldy Notch so many times its second nature, and the road down to Stockton Flat, also no problem. Coming back up though took a lot out of me and about half way back up the climb I began doing some serious push a bike. The north side of Baldy has some of the best scenery in SoCal. There are still some wide swaths recovering from fires, but most of the forest is stunning with high peaks all around. A very worthwhile trip. Total damage 15.79 miles, 3.5 hours (which included a lot of exploring in the Stockton Flat area), 3175 ft of elevation gain (which seems low to me), grades ranged mostly between 8% and 16%.

    on to the pix:

    1. some lingering yellow in the high country,
    2. riding down,
    3. still coming down,
    4. at Stockton Flat,
    5. plant montage with bike,
    6. Dawson Peak, or Mt. Harwood?
    7. bike and stump,
    8. the massive upper gate @ Stockton Flat,
9 to 13. some surface shots,
    14. slope shot,
    15. push a bike,
    16. ride a bike,
    17. track into Coldwater Canyon, steep and loose,
    18. fun with Catapilars,
    19. more fun with Catapilars.

Good job, Stockton Flats really is a pretty area. Where was the belly scraper at? Abandoned or still in use.

Up at the top. Apparently they built a new reservoir for snow making at the ski area.
