Now that this is over, can we have more of the details?

Now that this has blown over, I am debating if I should take down my review on Yelp. Someone says you can't predict the crazies but on the other hand, you also don't want to yield to the injustices of the world. Maybe I should get a shot gun like Biden says.

Thanks for the update; good to see sanity reign occasionally. Will you be able to do anything to help MojoCP for the time he invested(at the risk of gasp another lawsuit)?

Agree, this sounds like something that would be influenced by the Streisand effect : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect

While obviously not the situation here, NPR recently had a report on businesses who hire Yelp posters with a favorable review history to post phony reviews, positive about their clients or negative about their clients' competition. During the call in, one guy said he was hired to write fake positive reviews but drew the line when asked to review plastic surgeons. I could understand suing in those situations although it would be the business and its client that the lawyers would really be going after. Still the reviewer would most likely be named as well.

Happy to help. I'll wait for giantschwinn to give any details about the identity of the offending contractor and the nature of the allegations. But it was nice to get the case in front of a superior court judge, rather than a small claims commissioner. I can say that the Plaintiff didn't like it too much when giantschwinn showed up with an attorney to mess up his sandpile. The guy had an overbearing and bullying personality - which is pretty much why he won the first iteration of this case.

During our trial de novo, all the plaintiff could say to the judge in response to some of the definitive legal principles and case law that i was offering (in conjunction with a brief with citations, analysis) was: "Well, my attorney told me [the opposite]!"

In my opinion, it was all worth it to help a fellow MTB'er. And giantschwinn is a solid guy, as are most in our community. Once the weather gets a bit more consistent, we're going to celebrate by hitting the trails.

giantschwinn doesn't owe me anything. I figure that in my profession, doing solid work for people is the best way to build/grow your reputation. Plus I sleep better knowing that guy was put in his place.

Most attorneys I know are roadies.
New respect for you Mojo. You really rubbed me the wrong way when you first joined STR (not that it matters) but I think it's fantastic what you did.
It'll come back to you in a good way!!
    Congrats GiantS

Also a word on posting yelp reviews, Yelp will not "back you up" or offer any legal assistance. In other words, you are sharing your experiences, helping create contents for their website and make the owners millions, and you take full responsibility for what you write in the reviews. Yelp WILL try to help as little as they are legally required and make the point to stay out of any legal mess.
