Yellow sure is bright (Yeti content)

Well, those who followed my Colorado RR's may recall one of the bikes I have is a Yeti ASX. Well the week I came back from Co I was cleaning that Yeti and found this on the seat tube:

After contemplating my choices I felt the best (cheapest) option for me was to replace the frame with the same frame until I'm ready to upgrade to another freeride frame. The frame has a 2 year warranty and I've had it for almost 5 years; a no go for warranty replacement.

I found an almost brand new ASX on ebay for 400.00 with 5th element shock. The frame is pristine, not a scratch on it. I just purchased a new Roco for the older one so the 5th will become my back-up.

I really didn't like the brushed aluminum color so I took it to Olympic to have it powder coated. I was first introduced to Olympic when tkblazer took his Giant there. Thanks TK!

So, two weeks later I pick up my brand spankin' new (to me) frame and am super stoked as to how it turned out.

I nailed the headbadge on and replaced the 5th with my new Roco and voila! I have a new yellow bike. Yellow, not unlike the liger, is pretty much my favorite color I don't wear.

    No more stealth for me.

Thanks to Zumwalt's bicycles in San Diego for helping me build the bike!

That looks really good. I like bikes that have color - they seem to have more "personality."

Nice bike Tom! Makes me miss my ASX.

Your tires are backwards BTW. Michelin has the arrow facing the direction of most traction for motorcycles.

Wow, nice job Tom. That's the best $400.00 ever spent.

    Questions and statements...

1st: are you sure it's not an Ellsworth masked as a Yeti? That's unheard of (for Yeti, Turner and Intense).

2nd: so much for your stealth riding days (no, not poaching, just stealth). You'll stick out like a red Corvette in Kremlin Square.

3rd: That's one beefy burly looking banana!

4th: I have nothing more to say so please move along and go ride your jello bike wearing a jello jacket and a jello helmet.

    Wow, very observant Scott.

There was a long discussion about this with the Michelin tire guys at Interbike last year and on MTBR. They all run their DH 32 backwards for increased traction. The downside is it reduces the uphill rollability. So, I am running mine backwards for the DH/Shuttle runs per their advice.

nice bike but the tire thing is a myth, weight gives you traction on a bike with tread a distant second. the key is maximum traction and stability when breaking/descending but it it's good enough for you than roll it. Four bills aint bad considering, but would be a bummer to see this one crack up too. In lieu of paint I would have dropped the six hundred on a newer close out but it does look a lot better, now lets see her with some mud.

    Thanks for the props.

Umm, not sure I fully understand what you are saying in regards to the tires, I just know that the Michelin reps themselves run their DH 32's backwards for braking.

I may be a lemming but I'm a lemming with reason.

I am waiting for the 303r DH frame so I wanted to go the most inexpensive route. Looked at a Highline (1500.00), looked at a IH 7 point built (1900.00) and I didn't want to spend that money yet, but it was close.

Kinda still looking at a Highline though.
