So as the end of the year comes speeding at us like a runaway train I'm wondering how everyone did on their yearly goals? I blew chunks. I wanted to get two rides a week in every week of the year and came up short by about half. I don't have any fancy GPS so I don't know mileage but I know I've done about 52 rides this year rather than the 104 I wanted to do. I've also done about 28 jogs which ended up being about 12 shy of the orignal goal I set.

So its back to the drawing board. I am a bit surprised at how hard it was for me to do the two rides a week. It seems so easy on paper.

So let's hear it guys/gals, did you meet your goals for 08?

Goals are like plans, they just get in the way of the things I want to do.

I didn't set many goals because I knew this was going to be a weird year with me making the transition from overseas to the US, from Military to civilian life.

I know I didn't hit as many races as I wanted to, but I accomplished what I set out to do:

    1. Make new friends.
    2. Go to at least one national
    3. Meet the other Bob Burns
    4. Meet Denmother in person. :bang:
    5. Eat at Joses. (Hey...after no Mexican for 4 years, I was seriously jonsing.)

My goals for next year are a bit more lofty as I'll finally have the money to race the nationals and locals.

Mostly, I just want to have fun racing my bike against other folks who have just as much fun. :drunk:

I've been riding 20 years and this was the first time I set goals and kept a log. My goals were to ride 2 times a week and 1200 miles. As of last night's Blackstar ride I have 97 rides and 1195 miles. Looks like I'll beat both goals.:bang:

Next year I will try for 1500 miles and hope that doesn't lead to divorce.#-o

Just can't stay away, can you? Good job on your goals. It's pretty easy to get the miles up there when you are doing some road miles along with the MTB. I have had multiple 5000+ years when I was on the road a lot.

Goals? I think I failed on most of mine, but I had a great year.

    My goals for 2008 were:

*Re-learn how to ride a bike (only ever rode a bike maybe 4-5 times as a kid).
    *Learn how to mountain bike.
*Learn how to descend without freaking out.
    *Learn how to turn.
    *Improve all of the above.
*Train for all of the above.

    For non-MTBing goals:
    *Continue establishing my career.
*Continue saving up to buy my own house.
*Continue on my weight loss journey.
*Meet a lot more friends and put myself out there more often socially.

So far pretty good! I still have progress I can make on all of them but pretty proud that I raced in the Triple Crown Series (albeit sucked but FINISHED). Work is going pretty well, going to finish a course I just took for "fun" (ie to further my career), and I close escrow on my new place December 12th.

THANKS for this! I was getting pretty hard on myself lately because of all the stress but this has made me sit back and realize I have come pretty far this year. Pretty cool.

I'm not sure what I may have written down last year, but I think it went something like this:

    1) Stay out of the hospital (the year's not over, so I'm not going to comment!)

    2) Try racing 4X (did that)

    3) Try racing BMX (did that)

    4) Help Ko (my girlfriend) improve her riding (she did that - she's rockin'!)

    5) Have fun (doing that)

That's one of the reasons I posted the question. I had a great beginning to 2008 and over the past three or four months those good times seem to have happened a lifetime ago. I forced myself to sit back two nights ago and look at all i wanted to accomplish. In the end the year wasn't too bad. I think 2009 will be even better....I hope!

Thanks for all of the great responses. It's nice to see how everyone's year went.
