"So I was just riding along..." Isn't that how all these stories start? No, seriously, I was riding up through Whiting (Serrano) this morning when I noticed my cleat felt loose. I stopped to inspect and my XTR Trail pedal came off the spindle (axle) staying attached to my shoe. I am soooooo glad this did not happen yesterday when I was bombing my favorite Aliso downhills! I could see nothing broken, but I could not get the pedal back on the axle. Fortunately, I had a spare set of pedals in my car, so I limped back to the car, changed 'em out and finished my Whiting-Luge-Whiting ride. Check your pedals! I don't know what to tell you to look for, but this would be disastrous on a fast chunky downhill - allegedly what the pedals are built for. :?:
Yes. The M985. Mine came off the spindle. One day noticed it was loose and it just slide off the spindle. Have read about similar failures.
I found a missing screw on my SPD's the other day when I was cleaning the bike after a ride. any idea where one could get a replacement besides form the hardware store.
How many people riding them without problems besides me? only hear the bad news.....could be one of 1000's or 10'000's. Do a search for Crank Bros pedal failures and your computer may just shut down (windows-ha).
I don't work there, Give them a call tomorrow and talk to Mike or Ryan. They will take care of you! 714.879.8310 True, you only hear bad news. Fact is stuff breaks.... Unfortunately.
Epic when it comes to broken springs but CB has been good at replacing them even if they are out of warranty. We are just lucky they are local and can go in and just have them fix it on the spot. I've been riding candys since 08 and love them. Recently changed to mallets and couldn't be happier. Whether it be shimano or cb, things will break eventually.
Sorry to hear about the bad luck with the pedals chris. Glad you didn't get seriously injured. FB is also getting some Blackspire pedals in sometime this week I think. So you may wanna check them out!! I believe they are the sub3's!! Those and the ht pedals are my current favorites! If you get a set of ht's make sure you loctite the pins before use and they should be dialed. The magnesium aeo1's feel lighter than air.
I have a great set of Straitline JLs that I use on my DH rig, but I prefer being clipped in for cross-country/all mt. riding. If for no other reasons than flats rip the s&&t out of my shins and calf every time I am near them. Flats can fail too, BTW.
Gotta love how people riding flats always feel inadequate and project those feeling on those riding clipless. Back on topic, rumor is a batch went out with funky seals and this leads to failure, instant warranty relief if you live close to the Irvine headquarters. Most Shimano pedals are bulletproof.
