    Hi,

I made the mistake of running my chain on the drivetrain until it skipped. Now I'm faced with most likely replacing the whole thing after one season of riding about 3 times a week. My current set up is XT M770 cranks and cassete with an XTR chain.

Question: the 9sp stuff is down in price so I can get a XTR outer ring for $10 more than an XT outer on ebay. Can I mix an match? I might have read somewhere the XTR sizing is a bit different but I'm not sure.

also in terms of durability is the XTR stuff longer lasting? I was thinking of stepping up to the XTR cassete for the titanium cogs.

    thanks

Sorry,no. XTR to XTR, XT to XT. Mix chains and cassetes and derailleurs ,but not chainrings. -Lloyd

how bad is the skipping? ive noticed that turning in the B screw on the rear derailleur can stop skipping when shifting.

buy a chain checker for good measure.

All 770/970 rings have same spacing so they will all work(although it may look a little funny). Just make sure you don't have worn cassette and chain in the mix.

Yes the Ti cogs and middle ring of XTR are more durable and way lighter.

the skipping isn't terrible at the moment..I will need to do something soon tho, the last time I had my bike serviced the tech mentioned that the drivetrain was worn. I need a second opinon to confirm what needs replacing I think
