I have the older ones that don't yet have the shifting integrated into the brake a la Shimano road shifter/levers. I like them, but I wish I hadn't bought them. The main reason is I'm forever stuck with the brakes that work with them (in my case mechs or vs). If I want to go hydro, I've got to replace my shifters too. The other downside is you don't have any shifter position adjustment independent of the brake lever position -- this hasn't troubled me any, but I'm not that picky.

I've been running the XTs for about 2 years
Love them, brake and shift at the same time .....no problem

That is a very good point though
