so I installed these and tightened them down (non-drive side) and it keeps backing out on me. normally its snug up against the bb what am i doing wrong here? the sticker says 15lb on the bolts so i didnt want to over torque it but i cab kick it and it'll move in thoughts?:?:
i keep getting the same thing on my xt and xtr cranks, though that's just because i installed them myself. Actually on the way to the garage right now to fix both sets. ](*,)
I had that issue with an xtr BB and Race Face arms. It turned out that I needed an extra spacer (1mm) on the drive side.
+1 on the spacer. As far as Race Face goes, it's an elastomeric preload spacer. If you have a 68mm shell you need 2 (one on each side), 73mm you just use one on the drive side.
weird because when i had this crank on my ellsworth epiphany it didnt have that problem so you think i need a spacer on the drive side?
how did you tighten them? did you get your own external BB tool? I got a few spacers at my place if you need em...
Sticker says 12-15 N-m - Newton meters. So that's more like 8-11 ft/lbs..but anyways..I would check the need for spacers as well.
haha, I broke down and got niffty Headset tools, with the amount of bikes I tear down and build I need it.
I was having the same problem, ended up having to replace the nondrive crank arm. The threads started to strip inside the arm and it was the only fix according to LBS at that point. Make sure you get it torqued down right.
you're right it's Nm, the two bolts dont seem to be stripped they're tight on there i just thing that i need a spacer on the non-drive side...that would be funny if that crank falls off...NOT
Incorrect. If you have a 68 mm shell, you need two 2.5 mm spacers on the drive side, and one 2.5 mm spacer on the non-drive side. My memory recalls the same thing. I think it's 13-15 Nm. Shimano's site is down now, so I can't check.
if your bb is 68mm you will need 2 spacers on the drive side and one on the none drive side. The extra one on the drive side is for the Etype mech. 73mm BB you only need one on your drive side. and 73mm with Etype then no spacer. make sure you alternate tightening the pinch bolts make sure you measure your BB shell
