I would like to hear a comparison between the Avid Elixir CR and the Shimano XT brake systems. I am looking at both and need to decide soon!

I'm curious which XTs are those.

I recently picked up a pair of 765s (or are they 756s... no matter, they'r still in the box) - they look different than the others. I wonder if they are as good as the others people so rave abut.

David is running XT M770s which is noticeably nicer and stronger than the M765s. And the M770s have tool less lever adjustment which is really nice.

Over all they are quite a bit stronger, more adjustable and a lot more modulation. Oh and much easier to bled and change pads.

    2 thumbs up!

are you saying my new breaks are a load of cr@p? oh boy... didn't you learn to lie?

looks like not all XTs created equal. I'll let you know my impressions of 765s soon - just need to put'em on.

didn't fade, no noise, the lever goes back after 20 miles to where it was after mile 1.

running organic pads, or so I was told last night

I like the lever too, one finger breaking and the bike just stops.

I have Juicy 7/Carbons on my bikes, and they work just fine, but not like these

Sorry forgot to turn on my peachy filter today.#-o:lol:

The older ones are still good just not as good as the new ones. They actually took some time to think and redesigned it from ground up as suppose to repackage and moderately improve an existing product.

I believe you mean the 775 series (I don't know if there was a 770 series). The 765s are different brakes, and they do not have the servo wave lever, which is what makes the 775 brakes work so well.

By the way, you may have recognzed this picture below. In one of the videos I've seen, he was using XT 775 brakes. I don't go that fast, so if they're good enough for him, they're good enough for me.

You can see the levers in the gallery here:

Lee once the SS is finished you can try out the Elixir R brakes that should give you an idea about the CR.

I got a set of these last year and have loved them, thus far. In fact, the week I got them is the week I rode Chilao with some bubs. Some kid knocked me off the trail and in the process, bent my rear rotor, front right lever and scratched the crap out of the front right brake housing. Never mine the bodily damage. Maybe if he had XT disc brakes, he could have stopped in time and avoided me all together. Oh well! ;)

Me too! (5.5, SlopeStyle, Mob, and soon Ko's SlopeStyle - Saint's on the M6) I'll have XTs on my next singlespeed, whenever I get going on that as well (I already have the brakes).

You are right Lee.....they are M775. I got my numbers mixed up a bit.

Oh david I told you the rear hose is cut a bit short. If you are going to switch hose might as well get the stainless steel ones.;)
