... Rally, what was that? Half the drivers didn't know the course. Super Rally... Huh? Flagman threw checkers after lap 4 of a 5 lap race. What a total mess. Guys with trucker hats shouldn't run an event like this. Get some professionals. And maybe announcers with a clue would help. A horrible telecast gone terribly wrong. Who runs this thing? He needs to be fired immediately.
glad I wasn't the only one who thought this. I came home Thursday night and some of the events were already in the finals, did that change this year? Seemed like some of the events were over before the weekend ever started
I totally enjoyed the trials park stuff today, therefore, I wont complain. Kudos to the riders!!!! Life is good!, Steve
The rally racing has always been subpar. Then again this years WRC wasn't as great as usual, still better than the Xgames.
I'm curious to why the skate and bmx "street" competition doesn't require them to wear any protection, a helmet at least.
I watched part of the rally and thought it was a decent attempt at rally gaining popularity in the United States. Whats next for the X-Games, Trophy Truck Stadium racing. I didnt know that the X-Games were designed for millionaires to take their expensive toys out and play while being filmed for national television.
Because the contestants that are "street" don't normally wear protective gear when they ride/skate. It is optional for all pro athletes I assume. Not a great example for kids I agree, but that element should be the parents responsibility. I added a key word into your post. All in all, the X-Games suck every year. I bet if Tony Hawk were to enter the Big-air contest and belly-slide down the ramp he would win with a standing ovation. The X-Games is just one big commercial. "Double pits to chesty"? Seriously? Every year I say "next year I will not watch the x games"... been saying that for years...
I went to Park and Street BMX finals. BMX looks good on both courses, and the riders are all throwing down big technical tricks. I think espn and the x-games should invite some slope style riders (Brandon Semenuk) to do bmx big air. I was really shocked at some of the lines that got thrown at BMX street, these riders can blast that tea cup thing. Huge thanks to Oakley who hooked me up with a pass to watch todays event.
And then those competitors who gave in would be considered as sell-outs and would lose respect from their fans and peers. This isn't a nanny competition - these kind of competitors accept the responsibility for their actions, and they know the risks involved. Besides, many of the things they're doing, a helmet would only offer a slight bit of protection, compared to the many other ways they can be seriously or fatally injured. Kind of like sky divers - think that helmet will really help when things go bad? I'm sure there are many people on this site who are old enough to remember when there was a time that nobody wore helmets - yet we all survived. And like BH1 said, the competitors aren't there to set a good example, but to go big and win competitions. These aren't role models. The parents can make the kids watch reruns of the Brady Bunch, if that's what they're looking for. Let the parents take responsibility for their kids' upbringing.
