Did anyone see the X-Games last night? Specifically the MX Step-up comp? It was down to two guys, Ricky Carmichael and Ronnie Renner, both going for 35' and Carmichael falls and takes himself out of the comp... yet they tie for gold? WTF! Renner was willing and able to go ahead and try to beat Carmichael but they didnt give him the chance. It was a blatant act of favoritism towards Carmichael. He fell, took himself out of the comp, and still gets gold? Since when is there a tie for 1st other than 3rd grade gym class? Total B.S. if you ask me. Renner was obviously pissed off and should have won fair and square.
Notice there was also a tie for skate big air, but they gave it to jake brown because hiw total for all runs was higher, or something like that. They should have moved the start back 5 feet and let renner have another shot, and ricky should have taken 2nd. The whip competition was cool, todd potter specifially was whipping the bike the where he nearly could have done a 360 and managed to pull it back, it was gnarly!
If I remember right they said that each would get a try moving back 5 feet and that was before anything happened. After that the person with least misses would win. As for Jake he won there was a tie, first tie breaker was total score for best run and they were still tied. Second tie breaker was second score and Jake had a better second score. Bob had the chance to win all he had to do was beat Jakes second score but he crashes.
Yeah, I thought it was weird that they tied for gold. Carmichael clearly said he would not jump again, Renner should have been given the chance to clear 35. Would have loved to see Renner clear 35 on the 2 stroke, I feel robbed.
yeah he got robbed. They said in the event of a tie/sudden death situation, they would move the start back 5 feet... so they were in a tie/sudden death situation, but because Carmichael pulled himself out of the comp they ended it. Renner was never given the chance to win. Because you were probably watching So You Think You Can Dance.
ive gone free riding in ocotillo wells with potter and he breaks it off hard in the desert terrain too. i agree, renner should have gotten gold only.
Didn't catch it, was out riding. X-games is a joke, unknowns can no longer qualify or compete. All it is now is an exhibition for the sponsors and the talent is merely the premise. Sucks for us because it's just the same guys doing their practiced routines and getting their paychecks, the spirit of competition has been dead since Crisman came out of left field and De-throned Mirra. The production quality is that of a half hour 30 second ad spot. There are plenty of better contests, but they will never be profitable enough to give all of them their deserving coverage under the current distribution model.
FYI both had 3 attempts at 35 feet and neither ever made it. They both missed the first 2 attempts then they gave them 5 more feet to try and then both missed again. How many tries do they need? Renner didnt get robber he had more then enough tries to make 35 ft and honestly he never was even CLOSE.
They never got to run with the extra 5 feet. After their 3rd attempts it was to be moved back, but Carmichael quit as they were moving the start point back(you could see them moving it while everyone was standing around waiting to see what the decision would be). Yeah Renner missed HORRIBLY on his last attempt, but with an extra 5 feet he may have been able to clear it, now we will never know.
perhaps more of an expo than comp but still some great stuff and alot of "firsts" over the years (summer and winter) hit it a few times and first year in a while we missed it. had posted this before..i shot it day AFTER Travis pulled double #-o [vimeo]5872523[/vimeo]
if im not mistaken. in the best trick mx they said a few of the guys were unknowns. or atleast thats what they were calling them. are you saying the comp is a joke or the players? either way, i enjoy it.
what about Danny Way winning the rail-jam after only landing ONE TRICK! He slid on his ass more than he did the rail, yet still wins gold? why, because he was competing injured? pffft. That 19yr old kid should have won because in a jam format its based on consistency of tricks landed in the 30min session... not ONE TRICK landed w/ 25 missed attempts like Way. Again, total b.s. and favoritism... but GREAT product placement.
It was 30 minutes to get your best score he got the best score end of story. Does everything have to be a conspiracy with you. Next you will say the guy with the fastest time should have not won because so BS reason.
So far the comps have been let downs this year. It was a joke giving the Gold to the injured guy on the Big Air Rail Comp. The Big Air Moto Gold was given out for the same trick as last year. The Moto High Jump was kinda lame. Only things that Ive really enjoyed so far was the Double front Flip and Mirra's Tornado.
caution cratchity old man sounding stuff How come on the street tricks skateboarding the don't make them wear helmets at least. I watched for about 20 minutes, they only landed about 1 out of 3 or 4 tricks, stairs, rails etc...nearly smashing their face / head every time, they had to take one guy to the med tent etc, just seems stupid... oh I forgot its cool...
