Danny Way gets wrecked in the big-air comp, but incredibly bounces back. Crashes almost as hard as Jake Brown did last year (hit flat bottom from about 40 feet in the air): http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband...ryId=null&brand=null&videoId=3514254&n8pe6c=2
Jake brown got it way worse. Not to say Danny Way didn't get broke off his fair share. I just think the way DW fell wasn't as bad as falling all the way to the flat like JB. Either way. Remarkable he kept skating!!!!! :bang:
I wouldn't call that carnage per say, as there is no blood. This is a dangerous sport and sometimes you fall, the victorious ones get back up and the sensible ones Armour up and take the sting out with suspension. The X-games have become more of a travesty than the "Boom-Boom Huck Jam", nothing more than a big top for internet kids. There are no longer any formal qualifying runs, all participants are invited by a panel. It's funny that they went that way after Unknowns Like Bruce Crisman and Scotty Cranmer came out of the blue to upset the then reigning champs but maybe I just read too many BMX mags. I think it is more of an exhibition than a competition, and seeing that monstrosity of a ramp does little to allay my suspitions. This still exists only to sell advertising time and is so corporate that people forget about the people it could not function without. An example would be Mountain Dew not chipping a dime into Steven Murrays recovery after his career ended at their "Championship". The purse money might blind the poor young and ignorant but these over-hyped extravaganzas are nothing but infomercials to shove products at you with 10% action sports thrown in. I'll just wait for the highlight reels and go to events where anyone (who is worthy) can get a shot at the podium for their abilites and not the corporations that own their image.
good stuff. thanks for posting. love seeing bob in his robocop kit Way is the man and basically invented the big air but in no way (nonpun intended) was that even close to what jake did last year. it was amazing that Way didn't hurt himself...it was amazing the jake didn't die
We were in Staples last year when Jake fell his 48 feet. You could hear an f*ing pin drop in that place for about 5 minutes afterwards. Nobody made a sound until Jake stood up. Unbelievable. Danny's crash last night made me wince every time they showed it (and they showed it a lot!). Ma and the kids are at Home Depot Center all day tomorrow. Woot!! shud ==== EDIT ==== Not Ma! Me!!!!!
We're at the finals of Moto Free right now. Just watched Stenberg get pissed and whack his bike in the semi finals. Fun stuff. I have an iPhone pic of Tarah Geiger winning the first ever Women's Moto X race. Illl post later.
Danny and Bob have been doing it for a long time.Props to both of them.Skating has gotten crazy in the shear heights/distance they are going.
