That bike is a sweet i looked at them at interbike he even makes one that takes that surly wheel up front so you can roll a 4 incher
The bike rides amazing... It is very high on my wish list.. I have never,,,, let me say never riden a bike hat felt like that. amazing compliancy yet stiff. I rode Steve's around the parkinglot at noble, over the rocks in the lot and it is stupid nice... one day...
this is what I was wondering about. Being noob I may not get it, but there has to be a reason for the price and the way its built(kinda crazy and all), I just wanted to know if there was a reason, I chalk it up to more than anyone would need but as much as anyone could want.
They're supposed to be so squishy that they feel like you have suspension. And, I'm pretty sure Aqua's bike cost more like $10,000.
Yeah, you could say that . He also rides some sort of bike (Turner?) that he had painted... and had custom Huffy stickers made for.... and had a custom "Noble Canyon" Head badge made for!
yup, but you can also spend over 100K on a car. And just like bikes, some build cars for everyone, some only for a few. That's what makes the few so special. We all can't have one. I say the only reason that bike costs what it does is (other then Ti is spendy) it's cool looking to the right bub and only one guy makes it.
I like the H-Type handle bars. Make a ton of sense from an ergonomic and handling standpoint. Just seems a bit heavy though. I've ridden a full ridgid SS before so I'd be curious to see how this one handles.
There's a pretty amazing thread on MTBR that documents the building of this bike. The attention to detail is incredible. http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=140117
I believe aqua's bike is made of titanium and is fully custom fitted for him (could account to some of the cost.)
Supposedly Jones frames will be built by Merlin in the near future or are already. I think that increases the resale value of the frames in the pics-- originals built by Jeff Jones. They may look artsy but Jones frames are supposedly rock solid. If the frames are too rich you can always drop a $300 on Jones' bars.
I think the Merlin-built bikes are available only in stock sizes, but with the upside that you get your bike within 12 weeks of ordering. If you want custom, the frames are built by Jeff but the wait is much longer. More info on his website: http://www.jonesbikes.com/update/runoften/index.html
When last I spoke to him the Merlin bikes were becoming available in 2 sizes and yes if you want a custom you will have to wait a long time...
