I got a call from my wife this morning on her way home from getting groceries. she suddenly screams "a dog!! its going to get hit!!!" the pup (black lab?) had apparently already been hit once and got hit a second time by the car in front of my wife and that finished the poor pup of. so, my wife, with help of the person that hit the pup the second time both do what they can to get the dog out of the street so that it doesnt get hit more and make a huge mess. my wife called a local vet (we used to live in the area) and they wouldn't come pick up the remains (wtf number 1, but not the big one- I have zero idea if a vet should be involved...) and animal control had to be called. here's where things get sh!tty- my wife was finally able to read the phone number on the dog's neck tag (really old, worn out) and she calls the owner to let him/her/it know what happened and if they wanted to come take care of the pup. The owner said "no" and actually laughed at the car owner when she got on the phone w/ the dog's owner. are you f--king kidding me???? wouldn't you want the collar of the pup if it's been in your family for a long time??? people amaze me. question: isn't a dog someone's responsibility even if the dog has run away from the house? also, this was in Aliso- in/around single family homes. how do you explain this to the wife/kids when they get home AND that you were such an ass that you didn't want to help/express concern for the fact that your newly dead larger dog could have caused quite the accident? sorry for the rant- I'm in absolute disbelief here. my wife does have the owner's phone number, name and what street they live on (no house number though).
Report the owners to the local SPCA etc. You got the owner's info and that is a lame ass way to treat any animal. I would have taken the dog in if he didn't want it... my dog and boy would have given it a loving home as I am sure others could have as well.
thanks- i was wondering what the next step was. we rescued a dog earlier this year from a friend that couldn't take care of the dog anymore, but that's another story.
More info: http://www.orangecountyspca.org/ Orange County SPCA 9582 Hamilton Ave. #164 Huntington Beach, CA 92646 phone: 714 374-7738 fax: (714) 960-0554
we already have to call the county as the dog was registered. my wife is at the point that she doesn't want to deal with it anymore.
Dogs are registered animals. If you hit a dog with your car and do not stop, it is a hit-and-run and subject to actual points on your drivers license. Owners are responsible for their animals. Call the guy back and explain about the damage to your bumper and that he is responsible. That will get him out of the house. You could also post the number here. Or we could make flyers and post them up and down his street. Sorry for my rant, I love dogs.....
my OP reads weird- sorry- frustrated- my wife did not it the dog. the dog had already been hit once a few minutes before. the car ahead of my wife hit the dog a second time thus putting it out of its misery.. my wife was just being a smaritan and getting the poor pup out of the street as it would have likely caused an accident.
