Today is my birthday, so I decided to take the day off and go for a long ride. I live near Whiting Ranch, do I started by riding through Whiting Ranch (Borrego, Cattle Pond, Mustard, Cactus). Then across Santiago Canyon Rd and up STT to Old Camp and down the Luge. From there I went left on Live Oak Canyon and around O'Neil Park to Live Oak Trail. Back across Santiago Canyon Rd, I went up Glenn Ranch and did a loop in Edison and back into Whiting where I went up Coyote Brush and caught the Serrano Cow and Live Oak single tracks and then home.

At 31 miles and 5300 ft of climb, it was my longest ride and most climbing ever. Right now my legs feel like jello and my brain is mush. I don't know how some of you ride 50 - 100 miles regularly.

The strange thing is that in all this I only saw one other rider all day. He was clearing rocks on the long climbon the way to the Luge.

Clearing rocks? Did you remind him that it's called "mountain biking"?

Can't think of a better way to spend a birthday. I have a friend that does a ride in miles for how old he is. So when he turned 50, it was a 50 milers.

    Keep on riding.

    I wish. It's my 47th.

That's crazy talk. OK, I have 3 years to work up to 50.

I would be happy to. How do you post a .gpx on this site?

It was strange. I don't think that hill has much of a rock problem. At first, I just saw his bike near the bottom of the hill, then I saw him about half way up just picking rocks off the tril and tossing them aside. Maybe he was just looking for his lost pet rock?

Congrats on the ride and the birthday. I used to live in that area and have ridden all the trails you mentioned, but have never strung them together like that. Great variety and a hefty chunk of mileage and climbing: Nice job!
