My friend an I are planning on shuttling up Wilson the Sunday 11/23. We're going to be dropped off at the top early.
I have ridden Middle Merrill to Sunset, and I'm sure I can find the ride over to El Prieto to end up at JPL fine. Is the Upper Merrill easy to follow down to Middle and what's the best place to be dropped off up top?

    Thanks

There is a tunnel just off the acess rode on the way into Wilson. I'm sure if you use the schuttle service he can show you,or anyone on the bus. As for as getting to El Prieto Go down into the Canyon and up Brown Mtn Road. You will see the trailhead on the left.

edit: you want to go from Redbox down Mt Wilson through Mueller tunnel to top of Upper Merril (Markham Saddle) down UM, puts you at another saddle/clearing that you can take up to Inspriration Point or down Middle Merril to the ruins.

i think i got it right now, never actually rode that all at once

If you're taking the shuttle service, you'll be dropped at the right spot.

If you're self shuttle. Park at Eaton Saddle.
From Red Box drive up Mount Wilson Rd about half way there you'll see a parkink spot on a saddle area, that would be it.
You'll see a gated fire road on the right, climbs very gradually. After you go throug the tunnel, climb just a little more, then you'll see a single track on the left going up.
    That'd be the Upper Merril.

    Be carefull up there...

... Upper Merrill is super loose on the downhill side w/many narrow and foot-off-the-peg situations. Please try to erode as little as possible up there. Thank you.

    Your friend,
    Mt. Wilson

Yeah, upper Merrill is big pebble loose. Erode easily and kinda scary at times.
