Finished looking for a job around 12 noon. Packed the bike without even thinking. Got there and start easy on the hill climb. Thats the only way I can get up without needing rest. Wishful thinking. It was so hot out there today that I had to stop 4 times to cool off. Drinking lotsa water wasnt cooling me down. Whenever I exerted myself, whether on or off the saddle, my head would start to radiate heat. It felt like I was flushed with heat all over. I also felt like my coordination wasnt all there. It was unnerving. Being middle aged and all, I know that when my body passes a certain point, it can go all to hell so I kept taking it easy. By the time I got to the bridge, I couldnt take it anymore. I cooled off some more and went back down. Ive been home for 4 or so hours and I can still feel the heat in my head Next time, I'm going early in the morning
That's a good idea. Wasn't it rilly hot out today? That said, I personally go out in the heat a lot. Carry lots of water. - shud
Get a bucket of ice water, with as more ice than water, and dunk your hand in the water for as long as possible. This will cool your blood down and help to close the capillaries in your head.
Nice RR. I'm sure the views were still cool though? Where dem pix? Unforntunately I didn't take any and was there for the 1st time this past Saturday with 2 other budz...started @ 8am. We stopped 2X b4 the bridge... kept goin & then the sun came out. After that I took 4 breaks and could no longer stand the sun beaming down. The Hub was maybe 1/2 mile away when the camelback meter went low (3.5ltrs to .5ltr)....fortunately. Turned around and finally some DH & nice jumps from those log steps. All in all it was a blast. Starting earlier maybe 7 will probably be better.
Holy cOw! I did trail maintenance on the backbone trail on a hot July day with corba. I thought the close proximity to the Pacific ocean would bring lower temperatures. I was wrong! Really wrong. There should be a cold wave this weekend! Sent from my ™rotary phone using ®Tapatalk
I was wondering if you have GPS info? Curious about the elevation gain. The climb to the hub seems real steep in the beginning. Sent from my ™rotary phone using ©Tapatalk
Steep, yes. Broken shale in places. Hot in the summer because it's south-facing, on that part of the Backbone you're heading north. I like to vary this loop, up Amalfi, down Rogers. (Add Sullivan Canyon or Westridge to taste) http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=30013 Check the detail on exiting Rogers. On that road there's a sign No Horses. The section on Sunset Blvd is safely behind a traffic barrier, so I call it Sunset singletrack.
Appreciate the trail information and link! I've never ridden Rogers singletrack, but I did do brushwork on it and it was HOT. ;D
