It is 5.3 miles and a little over 1200 ft climb. Spend some time up in Wildhorse Meadows before heading down it is very nice there.

I think the trail that follows Wildhorse Creek would be worth following (west side of the canyon), probably a LOT less HAB and sand. Somebody placed a large log by the campsite stream crossing to block the trail, I think I'll check that out next time.

There maybe a reason that the trail down the creek is blocked off and the forest service decided to rework the old pack trail instead. That said I am also curious about the old creek route but I anticipate and brutal bushwhacking. I did not mind the sand or the HABing...thought the route worth it.

If You're in the area, let me know, Probably not a good idea to bushwack solo

You were right Dstepper, I ran up it this AM and the trail is gone for the most part. Nice run, waste of time doing it on a bike.

I did see some MONSTER deer sign in the creek bottom heading south. Good place to hang out in a week or two.

Jim big thanks for taking the time to check that out. Where you able to run up as far as Wildhorse Group Camp? I am guess if you where able to run up that the brush is not the problem but maybe the lack of trail. Big question is does the route have potential to be reopened and how many times does it cross the creek?

the trail was on the stream bank at one time, the bank has washed away over the years. The trail would have to be re-cut higher on the bank, to avoid stream crossings. i made it about half-way, got tired of wet brush and slippery boulders in the stream bed.
