I'm consolidating all the information I can find on the various trails that have been damaged during the Wildfires. Here is the link If you can confirm the status of a particular trail or would like to add a suspect trail to the list please post here or email directly. Thanks, Bill
Oh, so now we have to do your work for you eh?? I can confirm SMaRT in Fallbrook--It's toast. Tenaja Truck Trail is untouched.
STT is burned to about the 5 mile mark. Looks like the upper section past Joplin Rd. is okay. Luge was torched from top to bottom. Harding looks burnt. Holy Jim and Trabuco look to be unburned. The upper section of Joplin Trail (first 1/2 mile) looks okay up near Main Divide. I couldn't tell if the rest was spared.
Nice to hear you're back from your cross-country trip Eric. Look forward to hearing some stories. KeepsWhatHappens
As of now all the Poway "Open Spaces and Parks" are closed until 11/7. That includes Sycamore Canyon even though it wasn't hit by the fires. You already have Lake Poway and Mt. Woodson on your list. I'll let you know if that status changes sooner. Verified Source
I *believe* that Blackstar - Motorway is fine... I think the only area that might be affected would be Four Corners (top of Maple Springs) up to the false peak before Joplin. Just fire roads. I read Trabuco and Holy Jim were fine, so I think it's just that one section, as the fire burned up Harding, which meets up at Four Corners.
Bill, Iron/Ellie trail are totally fine and in great shape, I was there Saturday mornin'. The southern side of Woodson is fine and unburned, don't know about the rest of it. D
When I look on the Thomas Guide it shows Sycamore Canyon being on the Santee & Military zip codes, not on Poways. We are planning on riding Sycamore today, & don't want to drive out there and find out it's closed though.
True its on the boarder between Poway and Scrips Ranch. Per the county page they opened it today. I check yesterday morning when I was posting open/closed trails on my blog and it was closed. Today its open so have fun. I think they just wanted to make sure that the Santa Ana Winds didn't down any trees on the trail. The fire never came within 2 or 3 miles of the preserve. Maybe the air quality or lack of rangers able to work. Who knows... County Parks Status Page
Thanks for the link & the info. I was making sure, in case we needed an alternate place to ride today.
Thanks everyone for the feedback I have been getting here, the PMs and email. It has really helped with pulling the information together. It looks like we will have to wait for the National Forests to open up before we will know for sure on some of the trails. Thanks again, Bill
