Yeah, so just in time for Halloween, I am off the bike... again! A few months ago, I started feeling numbness in the palm of my right hand. Didn't think too much of it at first, and just kept on riding, but a few times I pressed on the heel of my hand and wham-o, it felt like jolts of electricity coursing through me. Really, really fun! Yeah. #-o Saw a sports osteo doc and he did an MRI and found an Idiopathic Ganglion Cyst in my hand. Y'know, like in Alien?... House (on TV) says they call it idiopathic cuz we're idiots because we don't know where it comes from. Hm... Yeah, well. My doc had me in for an MRI and found out it was sorta big (biggest one he's seen in that particular area, wrapped around my ulnar nerve...). Once we found it, I was all about getting it out, so I had the surgery last week. He told me the day after the surg that he had to make the longest incision he's ever made to get the damn thing out!! The final work of art was unveiled to me yesterday. 18 stitches in all. Looks like I am ready to roll for halloween already!!! Just call me Frank N. Stein... Stitches come out next Tuesday, then I need several weeks off the bike to recoop. Ah, well. At least it ain't broken ribs this time... - shud
Since you already have "Wicked! (Graphic in nature)" I'll toss this in here with yours. If anyone complains they can kick them self's in the azz for not heeding your warning MWaaaaHAHAHAHA!! Hope you heal quick. Not riding really sucks. I had to one hand it as well for a few weeks and stay on the road rather then the dirt. No stitches to show but the anesthesiologist did snap a photo at my request (was awake the entire time) and email it to me. It's been six weeks since surgery now and I will start back in the hills sometime this week.
The trails will be waiting for you after you heal. Just remember how bad you want to ride when you are better and do it to your hearts content.
shoulda just used a bible. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganglion_cyst I had one in my ankle that i popped by using the handle of a screw driver and a hammer to hit it. Hasn't come back.
Time for rollers, no hands neeeded http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/roadie-hangout/54394-its-time-year-trainer-vs-roller.html
^^^ Stitches come out tomorrow. All set to get into the gym and go for some burly rides on the old stationary. Spin, spin, spin! Yeah, I read all about bible lumps and Gideon lumps as I was investigating the stuff before the op. As it would happen, mine was on the palm of my hand and there was nary a 'lump' to be seen or smacked. The cyst was wrapped around my ulnar nerve, causing numbness, or when pressed down upon, an electrical shock type thing (now, that was fun...). - shud
One Step Closer... Not to quote the Doobie Brothers or anything, but I just got my 18 bitch ass stitches out! Woot!! Yea for me. On the mend... - shud
