The rangers at CHSP are slacking....

Anyway, wanted to get some miles in after work, and ride into the park from the corona side, and hit all the singletrack on the way back.

Well... the rangers at the park sit and do nothing, and all of the trails are approaching unrideable... (except fireroads and the western trails like sycamore and bovinian)

Anyway.... i knew sidewinder was closed, so my goal was to go from corona to chino via lower aliso to upper aliso....

Hit rolling M trail, and it sucked balls. 6-8 foot tall weeds grabbing your handlebars and impeding forward progress.....

Then i continued up the fireroad to upper aliso... climbed, and descended only to find that the trail NO LONGER EXISTS. it dissapears into a sea of mustard 6 ft tall. Thistle plants stinging your hiking....

had to back track and ride a trail that is offlimits to get to bane ridge..... (closed because a bridge is out... you can walk over the creek)

bane ridge... what a let down. 8ft tall weeds for a mile... cant maintain speed cuz you will die if you snag a half inch thick plant stem.....

lower aliso singletrack was rideable... and then became the same as all the other trails..... crap

anyway. severely disappointed in the rangers at the park. The place was thrashed... they missed their opportunity after the fire.....

    Highlight of the day....
    saw a snake... yay :)

Hi CHSP rangers that will no doubt end up reading this eventually.

and if you think Sycamore is not even approaching "unrideable" I don't want to know how bad some of the other trails are.

I want to work there. :-k

Would it be illegal or frowned upon to go out there with some big scissors and cut down some of those mustard plants to widen the trail? There is a section at the top of the 2nd B at Oaks that is overgrown too, so I was just wondering.

An idea i have, is get a 2x8 about 3 feet wide, and tie a rope handle on it. Use it to PUSH the weeds over 3 feet on each side of the trail.... break em at the surface and they will die. VOILA the dirt is still a foot wide, but you have 6 ft of elbow room.

If we could get 20 people to walk a trail with the board/weed bender/crusher device, the park would rock.

Ironically, this is how you make crop circles!

Yes, any work that is done in any State or county run park needs to be approved by the Rangers. Email SHARE as we've done a couple trail work events there already. Let them know that you would like to help at CHSP.

What about the trail that is on the other side of four corners from Bovinian Delight? Back in the late 80's early 90's we called it Danny's trail. It goes from four corners to the ranger station. Is it rideable?

    mustard is evil

i'm bummed i waited too late to hit those trails.

chewy= about halfway through your report, i thought it was going to turn in to another coldwater-style ride, where it was going to get so bad that you had to ditch your bike.

btw- mustard is edible, so if everyone just nibbled it as they rode it would be a big help.

I would love to mount two weed-wackers to my Bob Trailer and head down Raptor. Again I say bring back the cows to Chino Hills...cows make excellent singletracks.

Sorry you had a crappy ride. The system is pathetic at CSHP. You have individuals more than willing to help out and maintain the trails, yet they don't take advanatage of it. The temp. is cool, the grass is green and easy to work with... it's a perfect time to maintain the trails... I don't get it? I am sure they will eventually get around to it, but it will be in July/August when the mustard stalks are as thick as broomsticks and its 103 degrees. F'n park system!!

They have a few token cows for the school kids but not near enough to control the grasses out there.
