Shoot Keith. I think the "Weir" put this clause in the Hellride just because you!

"One Final Note to Contestants - You Come Alone. No lurky touchy feely boyfriends.."

I think you should train like a muther, and enter under an assumed name and take his azz down.

    He for sure did :D

I think it might be something fun to do once. Maybe Sarah can weigh in on whether or not she thought it was worth it.

    She still has the bike!

I don't know if FUN is the right word I'd use. But F-it. You or Justin should do it. You guys must be going through death march training ride withdrawal?

PMSL!! I think they were pissed that they couldnt get Sarah drunk and they didnt seem to feel comfortable with her sitting on my knee. Funny that it didnt bother Rich who was sat with us having fun recalling the days events. There was one normal guy from SC who brought his gf and he left in the afternoon after getting a ton of abuse from the other 5yr old mentality jack offs at SC. Their bikes echo their attitude - 5h1te.

Hey, good luck to anybody who does the Hellride. Totally worth it. I hope another SoCaler gets in. Who has applied or will apply? Keith helped me put together a great application. Personality in the app is key. They want you to sound crazy. :)

The bike is great. I switched the fork - from a Lyrik to a Van. I ride the Nomad a lot, and it helped me get into downhilling (because, let's be honest, I didn't feel much like climbing after THAT ride ...)

So you're the one that did it? Damn, that's cool!!

haha, I just looked at your blog, that is an awesome crash story!! Looks like it is healing up fine. SJT can be a little slippery sometimes......especially when you're pushing it. One time me and a few friends brought up beers for breakfast (Black Butte Porter, tasty!), amazingly no crashes though.

I see some of you like giving Mark a lot of greif. I have known Mark for several years. We rode together in Demo Forest near Santa Cruz and he asked if WTB could sponsor me. WTB was my first sponsor. While I have seen him at his worst, I have also been lucky enough to see him at his best. Not only is he an amazing XC, DH, Freeride, Roadie and Super D racer, he has done some truly amazing things for individuals.

For example-he leads for a blind gentleman (forgive me I don't remember his name) on DH courses. I was lucky enough to get to be out there when he was leading him down. Mark gave up a day a Sea Otter to be with him. Obviously Sea Otter is a HUGE 5 day event for Mr Weir. He gave it up. Mark has taken me on an aventure or two as well. Completely destroyed me, but I loved it.

The Hell Ride is his ride. Santa Cruz wants it to be as difficult as possible. He is supposed to be the devil-the devil I tell you. He does a great job. I'm sorry to hear Keith didn't have the best time up there, but I know Sara had a time she will never forget. Santa Cruz invited Sara to the ride the Hell Ride not Sara and Keith. No offense to Keith, I would have been there too, if given the opportunity.

People have gunned for Mark ever since he first started racing. I'm guessing it gets tiring. Maybe we should try walking in his shoes. I know I wouldn't mind living in his house.:)

    rant over

I have no problem with Weir. In fact, I love his column in Decline, especially the one he wrote about his bike being covered with scratch-and-sniff stickers as a kid. Great writing. He is truly multi-dimensional and gifted and perhaps even endearing in his own way.

That said, social graces were not exactly the strong suit of anybody there (including myself). You throw a bunch who don't know each other together, and of course you get conflict. It's the very situation Santa Cruz is trying to effect with this ride!

    Wow...

This sounds like a blast. Just down my alley...I wonder if the single chainring will be a true single or a 1x9? :-k

    I don't like the 30lb bike idea :protest:....and i don't ride squishies.

Hell I just did 78 mi and 11k+ 2 weeks ago in 60+mph winds...on the single :bang:

Now what scares me is the day before mental challenges...my dumb ass might have issues with that one #-o

    I wonder.....:?:

Best of luck my brother! The Nomad has a 1x9 and I believe it is the large chainring. You are also "lucky" enough to get 6 inches of squishy bliss on the front and rear!

    Enjoy!

That doesn't sound like fun to me. I would just get pissed and knock the "pros" off their bikes so they'd leave me to suffer in agonizing peace while I prayed my legs didn't fall off.

While I used to do quick 70 milers for fun back in HS, I'd be lucky to reach mile 25 at a moderate pace in my current conditioning. Best of luck if you ride it!
